Migalhas — Restaurant in Porto

I must say that I was very apprehensive when some friends decided for this place, after reading the reviews I was thinking the dining experience would be deplorable. I was actually surprised. Although the service wasn't perfect - how could it be with only one server for an almost full restaurant? - it wasn't terrible. The waiter was polite and the waiting time for our food to be served was fine. The food itself was ok. I ate the Costeletão and it was done to perfection. My girlfriend ate the Bife da vazia com presunto, sadly the sauce was extremely salty. The chips that accompanied both dishes were not great, some crisp others soggy. The rest of the party was satisfied with the food. The decoration is nice. We skipped desert. For a group of seven people, with couvert, wine, food, and coffee 80 euros is a good price, IMHO.

Btw, it's a very common practice to put couvert/starters on the table at the beginning of the meal in Portugal. If you don't want it, tell the waiter to take it away and if they charge you for it without you having eaten, inform them they're wrong. If you eat it you have to pay even if you didn't order it, if you don't eat it, it doesn't matter what they bring to the table, you don't have to...

Food quality was good, portions were big and prices were reasonable. We had Dorado that was grilled with crispy skin but a bit heavy on the spices on the skin. It came with whole new potatoes and a mix of cabbage and carrots. The pork dish was tasty but very fatty. It came with side salad and fresh fried potatoes chips, which were crispy and tasty.

Service was friendly but it took a bit for the food to arrive although there was only 5-6 tables occupied. It appeared that the kitchen was preparing the food one table at a time, which of course shows that your dishes are prepared to order but at that pace I can imagine you'll have to wait a long time if 15-20 tables were occupied.

BTW, this restaurant does not take international credit cards, so be prepared to pay cash if you're visiting from outside Portugal.

This is an incredible place that I love infinitely. Here I immerse myself in the atmosphere of Portugal as it is - the people, the melody of their communication, and of course the cuisine. Very tasty Portuguese dishes, craft sauces, delicious starters, kindly offered by a wonderful waitress, a very kind and pleasant person. The waitress is always ready to help with the choice and will recommend dishes according to your taste and preferences. This place has been perfect for years. We were here in 2017 and now in 2023 and everything was just as perfect.

I recommend everyone to dive into this world of Portuguese cuisine and atmosphere.
