Pinguim Café - Bar/Pub — Restaurant in Porto

Walked in on a whim, and my instincts were correct: I had interesting conversations, the ambiance was perfect -- an inviting commotion: laughter, friendly conversations, glasses clinking, and Patti Smith's version of "Gloria" on the speakers.

What you've got here is the real deal in terms of cocktails: I've never had more care put into a drink than at Pinguim. Spectacular. And make sure to ask Luis for his signature Portuguese Mint Julep: it tastes like Secretariat winning the Kentucky Derby -- but in Portugal. I have chosen this place from all bars in Porto just because I had read that it offers mind-blowing and interesting drinks. Maybe it was just not a day for that,. Even though I expressed that I really want something experimental, every time I have got nice significant drink. Also slightly sweeter than I had also described and hoped for. In any case, the place has very nice garden so go for sitting outside, if you can. I like calmness and view. Staff is totally nice...

My husband and I stumbled across Pinguim Café during our stay in Porto, and the two words I would use to describe it are traditional and authentic. The service from the girl at the bar was great (as was the price point); she was very friendly. There weren't many people in, but we were encouraged to use the terrace should we wish, which we did.
