I was looking for a late night snack after the dinner we had earlier wasn’t too satisfying. I specifically wanted a cachorro, and a spot within walking distance from our hotel. Republica dos Cachorros fit the bill. So we trekked on over at around 10:30 on a Wednesday night. The place was packed at that time, especially for a place that was closing at 11 pm, there were still plenty of people coming in to sit down to eat. We got our order to go, which took quite a bit of time to come out. We ordered the Simples (cachorro with cheese) and Prego Em Pão Misto (steak, ham, cheese sandwich). The cachorro wasn’t bad but I would prefer the one over at Gazela’s (unfortunately, they were closed already). It did the trick though. I didn’t care for the steak sandwich, which was dry, and the bread tasted stale.
I would say go only if you’re passing by, but don’t expect it to be quick. Otherwise, don’t go out...
Read moreThis place lost all the genuine characteristic’s of it, as most of the places in Oporto. Small hot dogs are still the same thought, but not the best. Avoid at all costs the dishes “francesinha” and “big hot dog like francesinha” because: You are overpaying for a dish that it’s not correctly made (francesinha for example, is the worst I eat in Oporto, there’s no tradicional sausages in them and the sauce is mild at best) If you want to eat a good francesinha go to other known places, even Santiago it’s better then this.. The ambient is mild, there’s not even 1 Portuguese local serving, again if you want to support a Portuguese restaurant and have the typical Portuguese experience, this is not the place either. As a place to eat something when everything is full it’s ok, but don’t expect anything...
Read moreOur experience at this restaurant was nothing short of frustrating. The entire place was a disorganized mess, with no table numbers or clear instructions on how to order, making it a chaotic nightmare from the start. When we requested to pay separately—a basic, reasonable ask—the server had the nerve to yell at us, snapping, "Can't you pay together?" The sheer disrespect was astounding.
To make matters worse, we were left waiting an absurdly long time for our food. What should have been a quick and simple meal turned into an endless wait, further proving that this restaurant is incapable of even the most basic customer service. The lack of organization and courtesy is unacceptable, and I would strongly advise against dining here if you expect to be treated with any semblance of respect...
