Aesthetics are quite nice at this neighborhood restaurant. Meal started out strong with gyoza and sea bass tartare that were very good. Wine suggested by the bartender was quite unique. My children had vegetable osoup that was good followed by minced meat that was totally fine for them. After that the meal was quite disappointing, particularly the sushi which despite a great presentation lacked flavor , perhaps previously frozen and/or farmed (the fish in some of the rolls lacked color, typical of frozen fish). FWIW, my wife and I eat sushi frequently in the NYC area, aside from other places we have visited. What I thought was supposed to be either fatty tuna or hamachi was stringy and had the consistency of previously frozen fish (think of a more granular Italian ice without being frozen). My wife had (farmed) salmon over black pasta that was good. Prior to tonight I can’t remember the last time I didn’t finish my meal because of quality issues, but I left half of my 24 piece sushi and sashimi plate behind. I mentioned my disappointment to one of the servers, who was greatly apologetic. After that, the service was weak as the staff didn’t seem to know how to handle our disappointment. Being in Porto for a week, we thought we would try something different than Portuguese fare (which we love) and mistakenly thought the fresh seafood we experienced at local restaurants would play out at a local sushi place with a 4.5 rating on Google. Potential diners should consider sticking to the non-sushi portion of the menu. Hopefully this place’s sushi going forward can match the impressive entry and interior decoration and wonderful greeting we received...
Read moreOrdered sushi set freestyle and 2 desserts - lemon pie with merengue and caramelised banana with ice-cream. The waiter was very friendly and suggested the most popular dishes, and also asked if we want to customize the sushi set, for example if we don't eat something or don't want fried sushi. The set was really great, it had rolls with black and red caviar, tuna and salmon sashimi, fried rolls, all very tasty, I can say that they don't just serve the usual sushi, but they also have their own well-thought recipes. Desserts were both amazing as well, lemon pie was like a mousse, sour and sweet just enough to make it ideal, banana with ice-cream was also very nice. I would definitely recommend this place, already checked and they deliver by uber eats, but the price is higher there (sushi set 36 euro against 30...
Read moreThis is not my usual kind of place, at least for dinner, the price is scary.
I went here for dinner with family and it was a bit posh for my taste, our waiter was funny and we had a private room.
Some of the staff was a bit weird, as they would smile when they open the door, but you could witness the despise the seconds before to that smile.
The food was good, but you just kind of get lost on all the wording of the dishes, my plate had potato purée, which I’m not a fan, and it want described that it had purée… it had like “Cocochas Al Pill-pill” that means purée 😅
My boyfriend’s plate had wild potatoes in the description but really it was one potato which 3 tiny balls were removed for the sauce 😅
I might try the executive lunch.
Dinner takes ages here, so it is a place for a gathering...
