Beautiful restaurant with poor service and overpriced food.
Went there with a few friends and it already started bad when the table we've made a reservation for had fewer seats than requested but that's okay, it happens and staff was very friendly and prepared the table accordingly.
Both inside and outside, the restaurant was quite empty so we were expecting a fast service and oh boy we were so wrong. First, we always had to call the waiter every single time to order and we've had to separate it into drinks, entrees and mains because the waiter was having trouble understanding us, let me specify that we're all Portuguese and the waiter was Brazilian as with some other staff. I thought we spoke the same language but I'm apparently wrong, I hope English speakers have more luck with this waiter specifically (no issues with any other, but I have to talk about our experience).
After asking for beverages (2 separate times, one for half the table and another for the rest, we were a party of 7 + 2 babies) we've then asked for the entrees, the order came out wrong but as we were hungry we said that it wasn't a problem. Then, after loads of time they've came again to ask for our food (at this time the outside area was getting busier). We've ordered the food and waited and waited.
When it finally came, the food had a good presentation but at least the carbonara was just not good. I should've seen this coming because when I was asking for carbonara the waiter asked me if I wanted cream or not, well given that this restaurant is attempting to be a true to form Italian restaurant, I told them absolutely not, just traditional carbonara with egg, pecorino (or parma/grana), black pepper and guanciale.
No sense in getting big shards of cheese on top as it's a hard cheese and it doesn't integrate with the dish, the shards were better suited for an entree of cheese than to be sitting on top of the pasta. Then the guanciale was so thinly cut that it almost didn't taste like anything or like guanciale crisps. Black pepper was there and then there was the "sauce"... It was just bad, not emulsified, probably waited so long on the counter and with lack of pasta water, guanciale fat and the right temperature, the eggs standed no chance in making a good sauce.
The pizza of a friend of mine and a pasta with mushrooms of another were okay but everyone that ate carbonara hated it.
Tiramisú was good, at least it ended on a good note. Charging 27€ per person with this kind of food and service is just criminal and clearly you're paying for the area and not quality dining.
Hope they get...
Read moreRUN fast and far !!! First the outdoor tables were being waited on/off and we waited over 15 minutes and were getting ready to leave when the “girl” finally came over to clean our table and said “do you want something”. They had nothing of what any normal similar place has, so we just asked for 2 espressos… average price ANYWHERE in the country is 0,70-1,40 €. They charged 2€ each and said that is the price for them having “Italian dishes” and we should take it up with the owner. This is a very low key cafe which is NOTHING compared to your average neighborhood pizza place… NOTHING. And the food we did see on plates - oh well, canned and v. small, you imagine it. Come to this area at least once a week but this place will NEVER see me buy...
Read moreWe had Porto Tonicos and shared three appetizers, which were excellent and very tasty. Indoor the restaurant has a really nice atmosphere, outdoor it is more basic but good to sit and enjoy the nice weather and tram 1 (infante), which passes nearby every 20 minutes. Unfortunately the servive was unresponsive. After the first order, I called them three times to order some food and more drinks. So I showed up at the counter and ordered it and even then had to secure that everything was noted on a pad. Order 4 items noted 2, hello and wake up. Regarding food (italian style) that restaurant is a really good choice. The kitchen works great, the...
