Delicious Portuguese food in Sintra! Love the medieval atmosphere and cabin vibes here. It is a small restaurant so the seats are close together just FYI-if you have a large group I suggest making a reservation, at around 8 PM the tables were filled up. They may have more seating outside somewhere being that the restaurant is so small but unsure. The prices are extremely affordable. 3 glasses of wine, soda pop, water bottle, bread, 2 starters, soup, and 2 entrees only 70 Euros! All the food was impressive and flavorful. The mushrooms with garlic and cornbread slice had the tastiest sauce. Loved it so much we drank it with spoons and soaked our bread in it. The cheese added to the mushroom dish enhanced the flavor so much. The soup with egg, I unexpectedly did enjoy. It was light and not too seasoned as the coriander and bacon gave a ton of flavor. The shrimp and squid in butter and garlic were fresh and cooked perfectly. The cod with sweet potatoes was cooked with veggies and bread crumbs which made it nice having the different textures in the dish. The entree we LOVED that really stole the show was the slow cooked pork with mashed potato shown in the photo. I would go back just for that. The tap sparkling wine they have so so refreshing also. I loved the experience but did feel it took a while for the dishes to arrive at our table and waiters were not that attentive but it could be because there was a rush of tables within 30 minutes so they could have just been very busy. And I’m still not used to European time meaning everything takes longer. I still highly recommend this place. I would order the mushrooms and pork with mashed potatoes again but would probably try the prawn curry instead of the codfish (the woman next to me ordered it and it smelled delicious), the shrimp soup which is only available in winter, and the fried...

An Ode to Portuguese Flavours at Romaria de Baco

Romaria de Baco resides as a gastronomic gem nestled amidst the historical splendour of Sintra, a town steeped in architectural grandeur and romantic palaces, enigmatic woodlands, and a sprawling sea vista. The restaurant, settled within the confines of a quaint, centuries-old house, embodies a delightful homage to Portuguese culinary artistry and viniculture.

The establishment's setting offers an intimate and authentic atmosphere, enchanting diners with its meticulous décor and cordial hospitality—components that coalesce to craft a dining experience worthy of remembrance.

On the occasion of my wife's birthday, we decided to venture to Romaria de Baco, which turned out to be an exceptional affair. We relished their signature Pork Cheek dish, a masterclass in balanced flavours and textures. The succulent meat paired with a rich sauce and impeccably prepared accompaniments constituted a symphony of gastronomic harmony, each ingredient playing its part to perfection.

A noteworthy element of our dining experience was the curated wine selection. Despite its brevity, each bottle in the wine list appeared to be meticulously chosen, manifesting a sincere appreciation for Portuguese viniculture. The house wine suggestions served as the perfect complement to our meal, elevating our culinary journey to unprecedented heights.

To encapsulate, a visit to Romaria de Baco transcends the conventional dining experience—it becomes a celebration of Portuguese flavours, wine culture, and congenial hospitality. Should you find yourself in the charming vicinity of Sintra, I wholeheartedly recommend reserving an evening to indulge in the culinary delights that Romaria de Baco...

As soon as I stepped through the doors of this charming establishment, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The staff, impeccably professional yet delightfully personable, immediately made me feel at home. The ambiance of the place was nothing short of enchanting; it felt as though I had walked into a cozy, beautifully decorated haven where every detail was thoughtfully curated to create a welcoming atmosphere.

The culinary experience was equally impressive. The chef’s creations were nothing less than extraordinary, with each dish showcasing a perfect blend of flavors, textures, and presentation. From the first bite to the last, it was clear that immense skill and passion went into every plate.

What truly set this place apart, however, was the attentiveness of the staff. They anticipated my needs with a grace and efficiency that made the entire dining experience seamless and enjoyable. Their dedication to ensuring each guest felt special was palpable and added a personal touch that made all the difference.

To the owner: your staff and cooks are the heart and soul of this establishment. Their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence keep this place bustling with happy, returning customers. They deserve the highest praise and recognition for their exceptional work. Thank you for providing such a wonderful dining experience; I look forward to...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (10/10) Romaria de Baco was an absolute highlight of my time in Sintra. From the moment we walked in, the calm and cozy atmosphere set the tone for a truly memorable dining experience. The space is intimate and quiet, perfect for enjoying great food without distractions. The service was outstanding. Every member of the team was kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it made a big difference in the overall experience. Now, the food is absolutely incredible. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. You can tell a lot of care and thoughts that go into the menu. It’s the kind of place where you want to try everything. Without a doubt, this is a 10/10 restaurant for me. I can’t recommend it enough and will definitely be coming back next time I’m in town. Tip: Be sure to book a table in advance. This gem fills up fast! And when they offer bread and olives its not actually included in the meal. You have to pay for it 🫒
