I would highly recommend avoiding this place.
I went here as part of a tour in Sintra and was looking forward to trying some different wines to finish off the day.
Upon arrival, the individual assisting us did not seem interested at all to be speaking to us. Our guide indicated that the host would explain more about each wine and answer any questions we had.
The explanation we received about the first tasting was "it's cherry". When we asked how they knew the wines were still good (some wines were 100+ years old), he said "because they're on the shelf. They wouldn't be on the shelf if they were not good". Not sure if there was meant to be humor involved in his response, but I felt very uncomfortable during my entire experience. Speaking to our tour group afterwards, everyone shared the same feelings.
We also spoke about other Ginja we had tried in Lisbon and he immediately said "that stuff is made of ingredients terrible for your health, it's no good. I know exactly what place you are referring to" - when in fact, he didn't know what place we were referring to.. But for some reason he wanted to turn our experience (that we really enjoyed) into a negative one.
Highly recommend...
Read moreMy husband and I had been traveling Spain and Portugal for a week and trying as much of the food and spirits (in moderation) every place we went. Besides the pastries Portugal is famous for; they are also famous for the cherry liquor. Each one having its own distinct taste from recipes handed down. So after a lovely meal we stopped in to sample this man’s family recipe; which he proudly claimed is the best we will find anywhere. And he was so right! While others we had sampled ranged from tasting like extra strength NyQuil to flavored cough syrup, this man’s family has absolutely nailed it and has every reason to make his claim. The cherry liquor here was a so full of the Deep, rich flavors and so easily drinkable. While everywhere else we were happy to stop at just one, here we were in danger of never wanting to stop, we couldn’t get enough of it. Fortunately we have a two drink rule or we may never have made it back to our...
Read moreWorse experience ever. I live in Portugal for some years, and just received my parents here for the first time to celebrate my birthday. For the occasion, we stopped by this place to taste the famous Ginja (I already know, but I was willing that my parents could try). The attendant was not polite and put the cups for us on the (small) counter. Because some other clients were talking with the attendant (on the top of our cups) I took the cups, went behind them to search for the money. While we’re searching for the money, the attendant started to talk with us as we were stealing the Ginja cups! We just returned the full cups (without tasting), payed the 3 euros for 2...
