M'arrecreo Gaia — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia

Just amazing. Firstly the food - the pizzas are incredible, VERY Italian and beautiful, Thin crust with a beautiful rise around the edge with a perfect char too. The service is superb, very friendly, not overbearing and just right. The restaurant itself is very cool, high ceilings and a cool vibe. We ordered pizzas with a couple of additions. The waitress got the order confused but as soon as we pointed it out, they were replaced immediately without any fuss whatsoever. I worked in the bar/restaurant business for decades and have to say that they handled it perfectly. The chef even came over to make sure that we'd got what we wanted, a lovely touch, bravo! When we paid at the till-point, the other waitresses gave us shots of a beautiful homemade liqueur on the house which was a really nice gesture (we've all had this a lot I know, but the fact that they made it themselves was a really nice touch). I am originally from NY, so I know great pizza…but this is THE BEST PIZZA I have ever had! This took me by surprise since I wouldn’t think pizza from Portugal would be SO GOOD, but it truly is! The quality of the ingredients used and the authenticity to how pizza actually tastes in Italy is evident. But the pizza is not the only thing that makes this pizzeria deserving of 5-stars. The overall aesthetic is very inviting and warm with candlelight at every occupied table and the roaring wood fire oven. The location is not far from the river so if you are lucky enough to get a window seat you can have your meal with a view. The staff is also amazing! We were lucky to be served by Ricardo who was very attentive and made great recommendations starting from appetizers and drinks to dessert. This is an excellent place for authentic Neapolitan pizza! They are certified by the 'Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana', so you know you will get the very best pizza, in the style of Naples, Italy!! I love the salads also, they are generously sized so you can share a salad. The wine selection is great... they have both Italian and Portuguese wines, with many choices by the glass too.
