Had a nice experience here, the food was great, I think one of the best meals I've had in the city. We made the mistake of ordering two appetizer which wasn't necessary because the portions were larger then expected. The Mussels in white sauce with parsley oil and Glazed brioche with flavored butter were very tasty and strongely flavoured. The Yellowfin Tuna Tataki, green apple wasabi, charred scallion miso, aged balsamic on the other hand was a bit more mild, I would suggest going for that if you'd like to start you meal of a bit more lightly. We had a hard time deciding on the main, the options seemed to be not that great when first looking over them but the Beef Wellington, slow cooked carrots & sweet potatoes, wild mushrooms ketchup seemed to be praised a lot so we tried that. It was very well made and really tastfull. The dough stayed nicely in place and the truffles demi-glace that came with it was nicely done as well. But care it is a lot of meat. The atmosphere reminded me a bit too much of a hotel restaurant (they seem to look a like often), and it was also a bit hot. Having some more interesting main options would be an improvement in my opinion. Nevertheless we had a great dinner, I would certainly recommend the place.

Am zburat cu prietena mea special la Cluj, pentru prima oară in viața noastră ne aflam la Cluj tocmai ca sa avem o parte de o experiența fine dinning in România la nivelul pe care domnul Dănilă și echipa lui doresc sa fie. O sa dau copy-paste la mesaj ca sa puteți citii experiența noastră aici. Faptul ca am fost acolo, se poate confirma. “Buna seara! Eu împreuna cu prietena mea am decis sa zburam din Germania la Cluj special pentru restaurantul Pastel. Stiim ca dumneavoastră nu sunteți prezent in acel restaurant dar totuși am dorit sa probăm cu entuziasm din preparatele dumneavoastră și a echipei dumneavoastră. Localul este foarte frumos aranjat dar au fost câteva probleme nu tocmai de ignorat pentru standardul pe care doriți sa îl ofere echipa dumneavoastră clientului dumneavoastră. Hobby-ul meu este sa adun cât mai multe experiențe culinare și am avut ocazia sa vizitez foarte multe restaurante de nivel Michelin și nu numai desigur. Legat de atmosfera, a fost Per ansamblu ok doar ca aproape de masa noastră a fost muzica la acel laptop de pe YouTube (cred ca am văzut bine) puțin nepotrivit fiind vorba de melodii de Crăciun (gen Mariah Carey) și care tot se repeta la infinit. După ce prietena mea a comandat și s-a bucurat sa guste in sfârșit din caracatița și limba de mare, ni s-a spus după ce am comandat ca ambele preparare nu mai le au in meniu. Am comandat altceva dar ni se putea spune ca acele preparate nu erau in meniu de la început. Stiim ca gusturile nu se discuta doar ca la felurile principale, pestele (dorada) prietenei mele era foarte uscat și Per ansamblu era totul dulce iar la mac And cheese am crezut ca acel preparat conține trufe și nu ulei cu aromatizat cu trufe (nu era specificat pe carte). Later edit: nu au fost deloc ciuperci sălbatice ci ciupercile comune din supermarket - ciuperci brune. Deserturile au fost bune și arătau frumos doar ca la desertul meu (Baked Alaska) bezeaua era plină cu cristale de zahăr. Toate acestea le-am comunicat doamnei care ne-a servit doar ca doamna respectiva a părut deranjata ea întrebându-ne cum a fost mâncare și am răspuns sincer. Apoi nu a mai fost prietenoasa cu noi. Cele trei preparate comandate de noi au ajuns foarte repede una după celalalte încât mi s-a făcut rău și nu am mai putut bea nici sticla de apa abia începută și aperol Spritz-ul. Îmi cer scuze pentru deranj, nu e o critica adusă personal dumneavoastră ci un feedback la experiența noastră in acel restaurant pentru care am venit special sa îl vizitam. Scuze din nou! Și cel mai important lucru pe care l-am uitat sa îl scriu a fost faptul ca doamna care ne-a servit, abia își găsea cuvintele atunci când ne-a adus mâncarea iar la farfuria cu dorada nici nu a știut ce se afla acolo - nici din ce era acel piure, in loc de crema de alune a zis din stafide… Nu o sa las nicio recenzie pe google.” Am așteptat după un răspuns nimic mai mult dar văd ca nu a apărut așa ca am lăsat totuși o recenzie. Almost certainly, this is Cluj's BEST GOURMET restaurant! I'm a foodie and go out a lot - this is my revised, 2023 post pandemic view. Pastel has a short but vibrant menu, the tartare and tuna are amazing starters, and beef Wellington is top 3 I've eaten across hundreds of restaurants in Europe. Hopefully, they will keep their very talented chef :) (coughs... unlike VIA, which significantly decreased quality) Prices are high, but oh man, the gourmet experience is worth it. Service is A++, and the waiters describe to you in detail what you're eating and why the combination = top gourmet style. I would upgrade the room / atmosphere - as it's bit to all-tables-toghether, no separation, no wow factor - just nice-looking room.

Almost certainly, this is Cluj's BEST GOURMET restaurant! I'm a foodie and go out a lot - this is my revised, 2023 post pandemic view. Pastel has a short but vibrant menu, the tartare and tuna are amazing starters, and beef Wellington is top 3 I've eaten across hundreds of restaurants in Europe. Hopefully, they will keep their very talented chef :) (coughs... unlike VIA, which significantly decreased quality) Prices are high, but oh man, the gourmet experience is worth it. Service is A++, and the waiters describe to you in detail what you're eating and why the combination = top gourmet style. I would upgrade the room / atmosphere - as it's bit to all-tables-toghether, no separation, no wow factor - just nice-looking room.

I had high expectations for my visit here but I was deeply disappointed by the experience. I went for a business dinner at the beginning of February and had the chance to sample several dishes. For starters I ordered the foie gras with the waffles. The foie gras had a nice silky texture but in combination with the chocolate coating and the waffles, I found the entire plate to be too sweet. The pickled pumpkin was not tangy enough to counterbalance all the sweetness. It was also a bit too rich for my liking so I left half of the foie gras on my plate. Overall it was OK but nothing special or noteworthy. For the main course I had the butter roasted dover sole which turned out to be the real disappointment. The fish was dry and overcooked and the caramelized onion puree together with the artichoke was way too acidic. Again, the whole plate was unbalanced and slightly disgusting. My colleague who ordered the same thing was also very disappointed. I also sampled the poached chicken and this was incredibly bland and unseasoned. The only good thing about the experience was the dessert. The sticky toffee and date pudding and the apple tart were the best things on the menu and the tastiest.

Overall, I am giving this entire experience 3 stars. I find that serving overcooked fish is unacceptable especially in a restaurant which taunts itself with a chef who has won a Michelin star. More so, the food was definitely overpriced for what they offered. I don't know if the experience was influenced by the fact that the restaurant was full that night but I will definitely not be coming back...

I am deeply disappointed by this restaurant and its reputation. Now I scrolled through all the reviews and some of them are in my agreement and perfectly describe my experience at "Pastel".

Totally overpriced food by reference to the location itself, to the taste of the food itself - extremely salty; or extremely sweet, too spicy, too bland. No flavor was balanced.

I ordered several dishes, 2 appetizers, two main courses and two desserts, water, cappuccino, cocktail - 700 lei. For two people. The mussels were terrible. Extremely salty. The beef was combined with an extremely thick, viscous and sweet sauce. I cannot understand how a Chef with a Michelin star could conceive such flavor combinations. It's unreal.

I liked the non-alcoholic cocktail prepared by them. I also liked the Sache Supreme dessert - basically a combination of chocolate and mango. Nothing special, but good.

I sat on the terrace. The floor was very dirty - stains of dirt and dirt from those who sat before, probably at that two-person table. I was about to leave, but I really wanted to have the full experience.

I asked the staff to come and clean the table. I felt like I was at a push-tray type restaurant.

The toilet is equally inappropriate...with shared space for women and men - no privacy.

MUSIC - unreal aspect. Radio music, instead of it being ambient, pleasant music...staff with inappropriate attire who serve without gloves...

Why pretend to be a fine dining restaurant and ask exorbitant prices, when you simply do not fit into these...
