Nearly the best veggie burger in town… I’m a veggie chef from the UK having moved recently to Belgrade. It’s been my mission to hunt out the best veggie/vegan dishes in the city and it’s fair to say that this place is solidly in the lead. The food is beautifully presented, the menu is varied and it’s clear a lot of thought has gone into it. The ‘protein mushroom’ patty used inside the burgers is great, it’s wonderful to have a ‘veggie’ burger with a great texture and ‘umami’ flavour without it being a junk-food meat rip off (don’t get me wrong, those types of burgers have their place in my heart). The salad is fresh, the veg is well marinaded and the sauces are delicious.
The only thing that stops me from giving these burgers a 5/5 is the fact that it’s nearly impossible to eat like a burger. Stacked with ingredients, the bun is unforgiving. It’s a good quality bread, sure, but it doesn’t mingle with its insides like a burger should. This means you’re gonna have to take the top off, and attack it with a knife and fork. Rai is a health food restaurant for sure, but a burger is a burger, it is hand food. I would love to see these burgers done in a brioche or Demi-brioche, with the top half steamed on the grill to get that warm comforting touch and allow heat to spark a gooey relationship between the components within. Alternatively, the large delicious patty doesn’t need to be as big as it is. Albeit delicious, if not only makes the burger difficult to handle but also towers over the other ingredients which need their time to shine. In this case beautifully grilled aubergine and oyster mushrooms.
Big fan of this place and will always return, I’d just love to take a swig of beer in one hand with my juicy burger sat comfortably in the other.
Either way, keep doing what you’re doing Rai,...
Read moreFood tasted good. Amazingly good. For this I give clear 5 stars. Unfortunately the reasons for only 3 stars were: We had a table for 10 booked. Several days before the dinner. After we finished with our starters the waitress informed us that most of the mains menu was not available as there were too many people in that day and they have spent most of the stuff they need to prepare the gyros, burgers etc. I wouldn’t mind this if us 10 just popped in but we booked the table well in advance. The service was pretty confused. I got a gin/tonic without the gin, it was pretty slow and although the waitress wrote down the deserts for us 10 we didn’t get all we ordered. So unfortunately although the food was amazing, the venue was pretty nice and cozy the service and planning of what is needed in the kitchen was pretty...
Read moreGood food, great service, they speak good English and gave good advice of other vegan friendly restaurants and activities.
Definitely worth a visit.
Pretty tricky to find. We walked past it like 3 times 🤣😂 You can get to it in two ways. You can walk through two houses from the main street and into a parking lot and find it behind a bush. This is the easiest but google don't tell you about it and there is no signs.
The way google says, take off the main road to a side road opposite to the bus stop. Half way doen that road there is a shady alley way that leading to a parking lot that feels private and that you are trespassing 😂 To the left there is a big hedge and behind that it is. You wont see it until you find the entrance, no signs.
But it is worth it, strongly recommend and you get a bit of...
