Deeply Disappointed by the Staff at Hotel Moskva!!
On May 11th at 11:30 AM, my girlfriend and I arrived at Hotel Moskva hoping to have breakfast. I asked one of the staff if it was still possible, and they told us we were on time and could be seated, as breakfast is served until 12:00 PM. We sat outside, expecting a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite the opposite.
The waiter, Andrej, didn’t greet us or ask if we wanted to order. When we politely asked for menus, he gave us an unfriendly look and told us to wait. After asking multiple times, he kept repeating—rudely—that we should wait. Finally, at 11:40, he told us it was too late for breakfast, contradicting what we had been told just minutes earlier. Only after I challenged this decision did he and a colleague discuss it and begrudgingly agree to let us order—while warning us to hurry.
We were joined by two friends, and we all placed our orders. What followed was chaos: double espressos arrived as singles, a cappuccino never came, and one dish was missing entirely. When I pointed this out, Andrej went to his colleague Marco, who threw his hands up in frustration and stormed off cursing. The tea cup my girlfriend received was dirty, and when she kindly asked for a clean one, Andrej snatched it from her hand in a way that triggered a panic attack.
I politely asked Andrej to be a bit more friendly, maybe even smile, as both he and Marco were staring at us in a way that felt aggressive and intimidating. Everyone at our table felt nervous, with shaky hands and racing hearts. We are in Belgrade for a wedding, and other guests at nearby tables shared similar experiences and were equally shocked by the staff’s behavior.
Despite all this, we remained calm and respectful. When the mother of one of our friends asked to pay her part of the bill, the waiter rudely told her that separate payments weren’t allowed. As she attempted to say something, he simply walked away, and we clearly heard him mutter an offensive curse („jebemti maiko“) —on Mother’s Day, no less.
In the end, I asked to speak to the manager. He came over, listened, and apologized. However, no gesture of goodwill was offered—no complimentary coffee, no adjustment to the bill.
Let me be clear: the staff at Hotel Moskva do not reflect the warm-hearted, welcoming people of Belgrade and Serbia. Every other person we’ve met in this city has shown us kindness and hospitality, bringing us to tears of joy more than once. It’s truly sad that such a historic and elegant hotel employs staff who treat guests so poorly. I’ve never left a negative review before, but this experience compelled me to speak up.
Please think twice before...
Read moreI find it difficult to review this place. STAFF: The woman receptionist was lovely, kind and efficient. The staff who took care of luggage at early check in are very efficient. The breakfast staff are mixed: the lady with long brown hair seems useless, the gentleman making omelettes is very kind and efficient, many of the other older male staff seem miserable/they don't seem suited to hospitality. ROOM: Traditional which is what you'd expect for such an old hotel, however our bed was particularly old and uncomfortable. We woke up sore, it was super soft and sagging in parts. BUFFET: More signs were missing or incorrect on each of the food items than not. I pointed out 9 incorrect signs which were then changed. It's not a big issue for those who can eat anything, however for those with allergies like myself, labelling nuts correctly, gluten free bread correctly etc is very important. Staff were very dismissive of this. I only wish I had the luxury of being so apathetic about these things. Saying this, they are one of the few places that do have gluten free bread on their buffet, which is worth mentioning (they didn't label it until I asked twice though). Overall the spread is reasonably good (salads, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, hot cooked eggs/sausages/tomatoes etc). They did finish up breakfast serving early though and started to pack everything up before it was meant to finish. This is very poor and they turned off the coffee machine 5 minutes ahead of time too. It's poor form. The Serbians next to us complained and the staff didn't seem to care. Something to note: go early. I also went out for breakfast after, as I didn't see much I would want to eat and only later upon pack up found out there was someone who could make you fresh omelettes. I asked if this was possible when I sat down initially and was told that they didn't speak English, I decided to leave it. FACILITIES: The general bathrooms for when you eat at the restaurant etc are in a pretty bad state: no toilet paper/all wet floors (see video). OVERALL: I don't think you miss much just going there for a coffee, enjoying people watching and the gorgeous interiors and beautiful piano playing, so I'd skip staying personally and regret doing so. OVERALL: Definitely visit - it's gorgeous, I wish the staff were more proud of working in such an establishment, with great hospitality. I don't...
Read moreı have read a lot of comments before staying here but i am disagree with many of them. Hotel has lack of details. No slippers in the room you need to request it but reception number is not written near the phone.İ dialed 0 and there was R but did not work i had to go down and get them. Decoration doesnt look like a vintage its like more old and badquality metarials in the rooms. İn the shower all the amenities were placed out of the shower. They were in front of the sink's mirror so if you wont realize it you need to get out of the shower to have your shampoo. Shower curtain is not really healty better glass. The ac is also not working properly. What actually works their main heating system so whatever u set up,it won't work. But i think its the building issue nothing to the unless you place an ac that is not working with the main system to each room. Staff generally careless you need to approach them. They always seem in rush and won't ask you if you need anything. For example İ asked if i can have my tea to my room with the to go cup the guy simply said 'no' nothing else. There was no tea or coffee in the room. Also simple note there is no welcome drink i have stayed at very basic hotel before here even there they offered a welcome coffee. At the spa jacuzzi's water is not hot enough .Also the water in there i think u should put some lemon slices in the water to alcalize it since its wellbeing area.Well as İ said those are all details.Overall this hotel looks great from outside but needs more improvement from inside.Beside that İ would say the location is good(almost every hotel's location is good in Belgrade u can just go anywhere by walking),the reception lady Jelena was kind and professional. She informed me about the marathon and i had very smooth check in with her.The other plus for me i was early and the room was ready so i had an early check in which i appreciated.My...
