Cafe Verne — Restaurant in Bratislava

I'm a bit disappointed: we were at Verne on August 16th at around 1:45 PM and had something to eat.

When we wanted to pay, a waitress came and then said the total amount.

I didn’t quite understand what amount she said, so I asked her to repeat it.

It seemed quite high to me (2 salads, 2 beers), so I asked: “But the service / tip is included, right?”

She replied: “Unfortunately NO.”

Because of that, I rounded up — which in the end amounted to around 13% extra.

I paid.

Before she walked away, I asked for the receipt.

She made a face, put the receipt on the table, and disappeared without a word.

But on the receipt, a 10% service charge had already been included.

That's frustrating and not honest.

In the end, it was 10% service + 13% tip — essentially a tip on top of the tip.

I wouldn’t be complaining if I had personally chosen to give that much — but the way it happened was just tricky.

We were a group of 8 Arabs. At the beginning, things were fine and we made our order. Almost all of us wanted to try the potato pancake so we ordered it. Also, I picked the red sauce pasta with shrimps but asked to have it without wine as it was written in the menu that the sauce is made of wine. Once everyone has ordered, I asked the waitress to review the order to avoid any issues but she refused and said it is ok, she got it correctly. Then she started to provide the potato pancakes and there was na extra one that hasn’t been ordered. I told her that I asked you to revise but you said it is ok. Then one of our friends took it to cut it short. Then upon paying the check, they became so rude, unfriendly, unprofessional, their faces were extremely offensive. No idea if this is because we are Arabs but we had a very bad experience and the food...

Came here based on a recommendation for some traditional food. The food was tasty and came out quickly. It was well priced too. The waitress who served me was lovely. It was pretty quiet when I arrived, but busier once I left. I was travelling solo, and so chose a table for 2, in the corner, and out of the way, but still with a nice overall view of the restaurant. What got me (and the reason for the lower service score) is almost immediately after finishing my drink, I was told to move tables to another table of 2 (behind a wall, where I could look at a wall) for no apparent reason. There was still plenty of seating around (5-10 tables, one of which was at least a 6 seater, another a 4 seater, then multiple 2s).
