This is an edit for my 5 star review from Nov 2019. This time around I'm not rating food on purpose on not averaging the score out. I was in Bratislava in Nov 2019 and visited this place on a hunch. It was wonderful, and I was looking forward to another trip on vis vist. It didn't go well as I was imagining. Let me describe my experience so my fellow US travelers (who know what hospitality should feel like) will know what to expect... So it's an evening when I can finally get away from work for nice dinner. I check their web site and it seems that there's a reservation still available for 9pm. But I'm hungry already at 6:30 and it seems that their site mentions that bar seating can be used without reservations. So fine, I'm traveling alone, assuming that it works like in US and I can order the same food in the bar, I just hail the taxi and went to the place. Paid 12 euro for the privilege to go up to the restaurant. Hostess tells me "you have no reservation". Site said you can seat the the bar, right? "Sure, you you will need to order $xx minimal amount at the bar". Not a problem, I was planning to order the full tasting menu. "No, you can't order dinner at the bar, only drinks and snacks". "Does bar belong to the same business?". - "Yes". - "But I can't order the same food?" - "Yes"... I'm dumbfounded that this point. I still have one more window of opportunity 2 days later and ask if reservations are available for Friday. She checks. "Yes, any time but 7pm". My night train is at 10, so great, can you put a reservation for 7:30? (1) "I can't, you need to do it yourself" - "Why?" - You need to pay 30 euro for the reservation - "Fine, charge me 30 euro now and put me in for Friday" - "No, you need to do it on our website"- blink, blink... Oh and 7:30 is impossible... why? yo said anything but 7. Oh but next after 7 is 8:30 - blink blink All of that interaction took quite a lot of time because me, willing to spend money at their place is not important enough and reacting to people "with reservations" is a reason enough to stop a phase a mid-sentence. Well, you're not only game in town... I just rescinded my prior glowing recommendations to my colleagues planning to visit our Bratislava branch. Maybe it's normal in your part of the world, but in mine, that...
Read moreSo the UFO restaurant in Bratislava is an absolute must! I have to admit, at first I was a bit hesitant to come here, I looked at the menu and saw the prices and thought that it was another kitschy overpriced tourist trap, however I couldn't have been more wrong! The restaurant has a very modern design and looks out over the Danube River and the old town of Bratislava. While this is not the cheapest restaurant, the prices are definitely worth every penny. I would recommend to go all out here and order an appetizer, main course, and desert. You wont regret it. When I was there we also received a small appetizer from the kitchen, a basket of bread with butter, and after the meal a blueberry muffin to take home. When I was there as an appetizer I ordered the sea scallops which blew my mind, the only real way to describe the dish was a flavor explosion. As a main course I had the Stone Bass, which was equally as good as the sea scallops. For desert, I was very intrigued by one item on the menu “macerated cucumbers“ . I had never thought of cucumbers as a desert item so I ordered it, and all I can say is WOW. They were a sweet/sour marinated cucumber which paired very nicely with the wite chocolate and the citrus pomelo sorbet. I can honestly say that this was one of the best meals I have ever eaten in a Restaurant. The prices may at first glance seem expensive but they are worth every penny, I would also recommend making a reservation if you are planning on eating here for dinner, which you can do online. The observation deck above the resturaunt has amazing views of Bratislava and I would highly recommend going there for sunset, admission to the viewing deck is free for guests of the restaurant, and then after visiting the viewing platform then go and have a magnificent dinner in...
Read moreWe visited this place hoping to get a nice view of the City of Bratislava while having lunch. Unfortunately, we could enjoy neither the view nor the Lunch because of the horrible expiriences from the staff there. In the Bar, the Staff showed us to a Bar stool and table while we were 5 in total (incl a toddler of 2 yr). I asked for a bigger table (there were many empty tables with no visible reserved sign) to which he replied with a shrug and did not offer an explanation for refusing us a table. When i asked him why we were not offered one of the empty tables, he asked "are you hungry" and said each of us need to order Main course if we needed to eat there. We were also willing to do this as this was Lunch time for us. After bringing us the menu cards, he said they are no longer serving Lunch and that they are waiting for a large party. We were quite annoyed at that comment, but decided to finish our drinks and leave. On our way out, my mother in law who is 60 yrs, used the loo. When she came out, the cleaning staff followed her and said First that she did not wash her hands! My mother in law Was shocked and asked her why this was her concern at all! Then she started saying that my mother in law made the toilet dirty! We were completely taken aback by this since this was completely untrue! My MIL told me the toilet was already unclean with TP strewn everywhere. Why the cleaning staff went on rattling about this is still a mystery to us. We felt utterly humiliated as she was saying this over and over in Front of others! We had a horrible expirience, the view was breathtaking of course but was made disastrous by very strange behaviour...
