I had the most extraordinary dining experience at Galjoen restaurant! From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance was delightful, setting the stage for an exceptional culinary journey. The appetizers were a perfect start, with the oysters tantalizing my taste buds and the sashimi showcasing the freshest flavors of the sea.
The octopus dish was a true masterpiece, beautifully prepared and cooked to perfection. Its tender texture and harmonious blend of flavors left me utterly amazed. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the fish and chips arrived, taking this classic dish to a whole new level.
But the sweet potato dessert stole the show for me. It was a delightful combination of flavors and textures, with the sweetness of the potatoes beautifully balanced by the accompanying elements. The presentation was artful, and every bite was pure bliss.
To complement this exquisite meal, the wine pairing was nothing short of exceptional. Each glass perfectly complemented the flavors of the dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience. The sommelier's expertise in selecting the wines was truly remarkable.
In addition to the outstanding food and wine, the service at Galjoen restaurant was impeccable. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about their craft. They went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of the dining experience was flawless.

Read moreThis restaurant has been on my favourites list for a while and I was really excited to try their Lunch special for R450.
The service was really great, the staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes they presented. On to the food..
Snacks (4/5): The garnished oyster was absolutely superb. The smoked Jalepeno hot sauce was the cherry on top. Tuna tartar was really good and I loved the sour cream and Chives sauce. However the crisp tasted way too salty and burnt so I would have done without that as a snack.
Bread(4/5): The breads were so soft and absolutely delicious. The mussels were bland so I had to put some Jalapeño sauce on it however the puree that the mussels were on were so tasty.
The local fish (3/5): We were served the hake as our local fish and it was delicious. They did a Asian inspired fish taco with lettuce instead of the taco shell.
Palette cleanser (5/5): I really needed this. The mango sorbet with jelly, with basil as as garnishment. Chef kisses.
Pap & Vis (5/5): Definitely the highlight of the experience. I'm not a fan of chakalaka but my oh my that chakalaka puree was everything. The fish was good and pap was smooth as butter. My favourite dish as you can tell.
Koffie and Koeksisters (4/5) The Koeksisters with the ice cream was really good. I wasn't a fan of the brandy foam, it was too much alcohol for me.
Sweet treat (5/5) Chocolate and marshmallows smores with granadila syrup....
Read moreAs a high-end, set menu, five course experience, Galjoen is almost great. They are at their absolute best with their seafood plates, which are clear, confident in the quality and the freshness of their ingredients and very creative. They are at their worst away from the ocean. We had a "cheese plate" where they had taken a perfectly nice local artisanal cheese (you could taste it in the grated garnish) and processed it into something vastly inferior - almost industrial. Their reservation policy, however, left the worst taste in our mouth. We reserved as a party of six and made the required deposit. A few hours before we arrived, two of our party dropped out due to illness. We promptly advised the restaurant of the change assuring them that four of us were still coming. When we arrived, however, we were ushered to a table a table set for 6,. and informed the restaurant would retain 800 R for the two cancellations. We found that very unfair and their explanation that they had budgeted the food for six hard to accept. After all, they were going to serve the same menu the next night and presumably could use at least some of the ingredients they had purchased then - their reservation policy seemed neither gracious or necessary. On a final note, the art at the restaurant is beautiful. Liz Van Den Berg's Gyotaku prints of marine life...
