Seebamboes is a wonderful new eatery created in collaboration with the Belly of the Beast team, on the site of their second restaurant, Galjoen. The restaurant concept is modern surf and turf. It is a small sixteen-seater that operates out of a mezzanine level above Galjoen. It is a beautiful, intimate space, with spectacular views of Table Mountain over the roofs of nearby buildings. As we experienced the 10 course set menu, we watched the sunset over the mountain and the city lights blink on. It was magical. The food was sublime. Each dish was a carefully curated marriage of flavours, with elements of the sea and land in all. Foraged seaside plants like dune spinach were used to wonderful effect. Favourite dishes were the Flatbread platter, a mini feast in itself with zingy pickles, stracciatella cheese, nduji paste, octopus, and a seaweed chimichurri; the Dive-in Bowl, beautiful pieces of seared steak in a delicious dashi; Cape Bream, a ceviche-style dish with marinated apricots and pork crackling; and Swellendam Lamb, a finger-licking combination of lamb bites beautifully complemented by a tomato carpaccio. The small wine list contains interesting, unusual wines, many sourced from the Swartland and coastal areas. There is a large selection of wines by the glass, which allows for a varied wine experience. The kombucha selection is a wonderful, flavourful, non alcoholic addition. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and made our evening and...
Read moreWas so excited to try the restaurant because I’d been To Belly of the beast before but was left with a sour taste in my mouth because we didn’t get to finish our meal because after ordering our second bottle of wine when the waiter was about to top me up the FOH Manager - Liebet Jooste said she is not allowing me to have anymore wine because I’ve had enough but my dinner partner could have more wine. We obviously decided to leave. I was not loud, behaving in an unruly manner was literally just eating my meal. Quite disappointing because we were enjoying the food but no level of food can outweigh the nastiness that is Liebet Jooste. Will never go there again but that’s probably what she wants; would not recommend it to anyone either. Funnily enough there was a table behind us that was getting louder as they drank more but their alcohol was not regulated. Luckily there are so many people friendly places in CT so I...
Read moreTruly wonderful experience. We had the tasting menu, with wine pairing. Each dish struck a balance between being delicious while remaining new and interesting. Flavours endemic to the Western Cape (seagrass, dune spinach) are fused with seafood and meat dishes in novel and exciting ways. The wine pairing was well considered, using exciting and experimental local wines, and they even let my wife and I share a pairing as we are lightweights when it comes to booze and sometimes it can detract from the enjoyment of the food. Will...
