A terrifying experience – serious concerns about child safety
Yesterday, my wife visited this Spur (12 July 2025) with a friend and four children (two of whom are ours). As a family-friendly restaurant with a designated kids’ play area, we expected a secure environment where children’s safety is taken seriously.
However, we experienced every parent’s nightmare. Our 2-year-old child went missing from the restaurant. Despite the fact that the children are tagged with security bands that are meant to beep when they approach the door, no staff member noticed or intervened when our toddler exited the restaurant unnoticed.
For nearly 20 minutes, our son was missing. He was eventually found wandering alone outside the restaurant in the mall by security personnel. The fact that a small child could leave without anyone stopping him — and that the security tag system failed to alert staff in a meaningful or effective way — is deeply alarming.
When reviewing the camera footage, it showed our child simply walking out unmonitored. This raises serious questions: • Why was there no staff member at the door monitoring the beeping system? • Why is the alert sound apparently too faint or easy to ignore? • What protocols are in place to prevent something like this, and why did they fail?
While we are grateful our son was found safe, this incident could have ended very differently. Parents entrust their children to environments like Spur under the assumption that safety measures are in place and functioning. In this case, those systems failed completely.
I sincerely hope Spur takes this incident seriously and reevaluates their child safety procedures — because next time, the outcome might not be...
Read moreMy family and I had our worst experience ever at a Restuarant let alone a Spur Restuarant. I am not the one to complain but with the experience we had last night, I have to complain. Our waiter by the name of Phillip was intoxicated, he was slurring his words and reeked of alcohol. This man also dropped a tray of dishes and fell against another table bumping a little girl. One of our orders for drinks was not brought to our table but was charged on our bill. We called the Manager and explained to him our issue, the Manager proceeded to tell us that the waiter was just tired as he has been working double shifts, it was clear that he was covering for the intoxicated waiter. If this wasn't bad enough, we requested a baby chair for our 1 year old Son, the baby chair did not look very safe so I asked the Waiter and Manager how it clips onto the table and if it was safe. They said it clamps underneath the table and is perfectly safe. The baby chair was then fixed to our table and we put our 1 year old son in the chair. In less than 10 minutes the chair detached from the table which resulted in my 1 year old son falling and hitting his head on the floor. When confronting the Manager we were told that the baby chair was not designed to fit on that particular side of the table and so it would not clamp correctly even after they had fixed the chair on the table themselves. Each side of the table is exactly the same! Thank God that my 1 year old Son is ok. I will be taking this up with Spur Head Office. lucky for my Family and I, there is camera footage. My Family and I will never ever step foot in the 7 Eagles Spur Steak...
Read moreFood was excellent but service average. Food quality was top class, and by the way the food arrived early (very impressive for people that were super hungry), and oh my!-the shop is spotless clean. The problem I encountered, or rather concern, is the Waiter's service or attitude, with regards to her facial and body language she seemed not interested in us and not eager to assist. She came to the table to take orders and deliver the food, thereafter to come and clear plates, she does not interact with customers, I'm not complaining but perhaps she's genuinely not a friendly person, in case it's true, then she works in the wrong industry. I had to ask what her name is (She said it's Sarah) , we placed our dessert order with some male Waiter, and we even left cash on the table and told her colleagues to inform her that we left money on the table, she was so distant or may be too busy for us. No manager came to check on us (okay may be I have high expectations because I go out a lot, but feel it's what should be done) especially because it was a quiet Monday evening with few customers in the shop. Date is Monday 18th February 2019, for Supper. I'm okay with eating out and enjoy my meal fully but topped with great service, it creates best times/memories. Cummon Spur, I think ongoing service training should be a necessity and/or do personality tests before hiring. In my opinion, the new Spur baby- Rocomamas takes the cup for great service and vibe. It's competitive out there, please tell your FOH staff/well with my case, Sarah specifically to Smile a bit, interact with customers and...
