We had the most incredible experience at this establishment. I had been looking for a place that serves authentic Pakistani cuisine and after some extensive online research, and a recommendation from a trusted online "foodie", I decided to book at Daadi's Kitchen in Norwood for 4 people.
Daadi's Kitchen is situated on the busy Grant Ave in Norwood and at first glance seems to be a small, unassuming little restaurant. But don't let that fool you. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, the aromas were intoxicating and the atmosphere warm, cozy and inviting.
We kicked off the evening with some delicious, spiced Pakistani Tea and that really kickstarted our appetites. We explained to our server that we wanted an authentic Pakistani experience and asked him for recommendations. He was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and we trusted his advice and suggestions. We ended up ordering the Chatkhara Platter, the Potato Croissants and the Cheese Naan as shared starters. Everything was so flavourful and good! I would recommend everything. (My personal favourites were the Pani Puri and Chilli Bites on the platter.)
For mains, we all wanted to order our own dish, but we knew that we would inevitably end up sharing and so we wanted a range of dishes. Based on our server's recommendations, we opted for the Chicken Karhai, the White Chicken Karhai, the Roghan Josh, the Mutton Dhuaan Gosht and, of course, a stack of Garlic Naans. Not a single dish missed the mark. Everything was so incredibly delicious that it would be impossible to pick a winner. The Dhuaan Gosht had depth of flavour and a rich smokiness that made the dish very moreish. The Chicken Karhai had an incredible mix of bold spices that seemed to dance together beautifully. The Roghan Josh was bold, but at the same time so delicate with such complex, beautiful flavours. The White Chicken Karhai was so unexpected, light, flavourful and delicious.
The portions were plenty and by the time we had finished our mains, we knew that, if we wanted to try dessert, we'd have to share it as a table. We opted for a Kheer to share between the four of us. For us, it was the perfect amount to share after such a hearty meal. Just a spoonful or two of creamy, delicious goodness each. (The owners of the restaurant also sent us a complimentary portion of Gulab Jamun to share - it was the best Gulab Jamun I've ever had.)
The prices on their menu are also incredibly reasonable - and we spent an average of R300 per person on all three courses of this meal.
I cannot recommend Daadi's Kitchen enough and will 100% be back there in the future. For the food, the ambience, the server and the...

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Daadi’s Kitchen in Norwood, thanks to a friend who was thrilled to share the flavours of his childhood.
From the moment we walked in, the warmth of the owner set the tone for a great meal. He was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, adjusting the spice levels to suit our preference while still preserving the deep, rich flavors of each dish.
We ordered beef chapli kabab, beef nihari, and haleem, all served with freshly made plain naans. Each dish was a standout in its own right:
The beef chapli kabab was juicy and well-seasoned, with just the right balance of spice and herbs. The beef nihari was melt-in-your-mouth tender, swimming in a rich, aromatic gravy that begged to be soaked up with naan. The haleem was a comforting, hearty dish with a beautifully blended texture and deep, slow-cooked flavors. It was such a special experience to see our friend light up while introducing us to the food he grew up eating—finding an authentic taste of home right here in South Africa.
If you're looking for authentic Pakistani cuisine with excellent hospitality, Daadi’s Kitchen is a must-visit. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to explore bold, traditional flavors in a...
