We visited Doppio Zero at the Mall of Africa on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected.
We ordered three small plates and a pizza. The soft shell chicken tacos were soggy, falling apart, and completely inedible. The bruschetta was even worse, it had an overwhelming amount of foul-tasting cabbage, and despite asking for no pork, it came with ham. We raised our concerns with the waiter, which he then kindly had it removed.
The pizza, one of the more expensive pizza options on the menu, however was flavorless, and the chicken had an unpleasant raw like taste. The only redeeming item was the halloumi sticks, which were decent.
We packed the leftovers but felt bad even considering giving the food to someone else, as it was that bad. This experience was deeply disappointing, especially given the standards we expected from Doppio Zero.
There was also a previous occurrence when we had visited the same Doppio Zero , we had ordered the lamb chops which was extremely underwhelming and not on par with other restaurants.
It was our mistake to think that it was a good...
Read more10/10 for the tacos, all of them because I’ve definitely tried them all 😂 I’ve been there on 3 different occasions, the first 2 times were for dinner on a weekday and I had the oxtail and burger respectively, now my mistake? Coming in on a payday weekend with my mom, aunt and sister after raving about the place! They definitely struggle when the restaurant is booked to capacity, we had burgers and pasta and everything was extremely oily and the waiting time left nothing to be desired, we waited 20/30 minutes for drinks alone and this still after struggling to get the attention of any waiter really. We got seated at a dirty table and had to request for the table to be wiped down. The restaurant is family friendly, good for lunches and dinners, wether you’re there on a date, with friends or with your family, it generally caters for all types with a general casual to smart casual feel. Prices are reasonable (R200-R300 pp) and the portions are quite hefty so you do get value for money, but by all means, avoid payday weekends and big holidays such as mothers/fathers day if you want a truly...
Read moreUsually, I'll make a few visits to a restaurant before reviewing. Here's no different.
The service was awful - I was sat for 10 minutes before I received a menu and a further 5 passed before anyone came to take my order.
My drink was eventually brought (see image) in a pretty filthy glass.
I'm not sure if I was unwelcome because I arrived alone or if my dress code implied I wasn't a paying customer but the attitude of the staff left little to write positively about.
The fastest thing I got was the bill and that's because I watched my "waiter" visit 4 other tables before bringing it to me.
Now, I was starving and ready to invite 3 others to join me (and I always leave a tip as I did even for the sugar water i was served in a filthy glass) but the service was so bad, the first person I invited got into the mall during peak traffic and walked all the way from the other side of the mall before I was served. So I paid for the drink and left to take my party of 4 elsewhere.
And with that, I hope to always find a different restaurant to eat at every time I...
