Horrible experience. Would not recommend.
When I booked the table, I asked for their dessert options and was told that there was cheesecake. But when we arrived, the waiter said there was no cheesecake left. So we asked for the gold leaf ice cream. Then, a while later, he told us there was none of that left as well. So we settled on the malva pudding. They did write "Happy Birthday" on the plate in chocolate, which was a nice touch.
GH on Festival advertises that it gives its birthday patrons 6 free brutal fruits. However, the hoops the birthday girl was forced to jump through to get these drinks were excessive. She had to rate and review the restaurant, before experiencing it, take a photo of her ID and send it to multiple different phone numbers via WhatsApp, and eventually had to hand over her ID to Tshiamo, our waiter, who eventually brought it back.
One of our party members, the birthday girl, specifically asked for 10 shots of El Jimador (2 silver and 8 gold) from another waiter Tawanda, after we were unable to find Tshiamo. Later, Tshiamo brought us 1800 tequila instead, a major price difference as El Jimador is R30 per shot while 1800 is R64 for gold, and R54 for silver. I ended up having to pay R620 extra for Tawanda and Tshiamo's mistakes as we were only notified after we took the shots and noticed that they tasted weird for El Jimador that we were given the wrong shots. We brought this up with Tshiamo who then blamed us for getting another waiter's service while he disappeared, which he did several times over the course of the night, insisting that Tawanda told him that we had specifically ordered 1800. The birthday girl, who ordered the shots, didn't even know of that brand of tequila until after the incident.
Then, during payment, the Tshiamo insisted on getting extra tips, saying that we hadn't tipped him when covering the bill (there is a 10% service charge added to the bill already, which he will get at the end of the month, he just wanted more from us so that he could get the money on the night). And after I remarked that I've also recently worked in service, albeit at an establishment where the younger patrons don't tend to tip, he looked pointedly at our, admittedly young, group and said "I know. I'm surprised about tonight" in reference to us tipping him nearly 10% extra after he complained that we hadn't tipped even though we had just covered the entire bill, including R620 for the wrong shots, pushed onto us by Tawanda and him, and the 10% service fee.
*edit: The owner has rectified the situation in a timely and kind manner. He clearly cares a lot about his business and took my complaint to heart. I will be returning and hopefully changing my review...
Read moreThis is a rating based on customer service. We wanted a nice father's day lunch. Drove from Randburg to Pretoria to pick up our daughter from university and spend the day with her. We wanted good food and good atmosphere and the ratings on GH ticked the boxes. It was very quiet, maybe just one table in the restaurant and the 4 of us enter asking to be seated. The host immediately starts shaking his head when he sees me holding my water bottle. He says it's not allowed. I say to him, I want my own water bottle with me but we will all be ordering food and drinks. He still says not allowed. After some appealing to him that this makes no sense and I am going to order a drink, he says okay. We walk in and the waiters stop us(mind you that the restaurant is empty bar 1 table). 4 waiters saying no water allowed. Why?? I am ordering food and drinks so why can't I have my own water. They say they sell water. I say I don't want your water, I have my own that has the minerals I want in them hence why I carry my water wherever I go. No sensible reasoning with the waiters, it's their way or no other way. Fine dining restaurants across the world will accommodate customers first, this enhances the experience and repeat/ referred customers are then born. So I take it there are no exceptions at GH where we are in a world where flexibility is highest than we have ever been in history. This restaurant has forgotten the meaning of a dining experience over petty rules that make no sense. If you have a particular issue, you do not make a generic policy to address an issue, you use common sense. 4 customers lost and more because I will not refer them to friends or family. I have eaten at restaurants in many countries in Africa and Europe and never come across this...
Read moreThe place is really nice and the waiter was really friendly, however the food was really bad. My friends and I ordered the 3 course set , firstly, the sauce used on the starter (pork shots) was very sweet, main course was worse😭😭 the ribs were full of the sweet sauce....they were swimming in sauce and it made it hard to eat the food. The sauce was just too much and it was too sweet. The chips that came with ribs were also so salty, yoh aii and when we raised out concerns, they said thats how they prepare their ribs. But there is a big difference between having nice sweet sticky ribs and having ribs swim on extremely sweet sauce.
Two of my friends ordered the mash potato with steak. The mash potato had a lot of olive oil, when we asked , they said it for a esthetics.it look nice but not practical for eating...just imagine oil just put on top of the mash. There was just too much oil on top of the mash potato they couldn't even eat the mash. That oil tasted like castor oil.
Luckily 2 of my other friends ordered burgers, atleast they were eatable.we shared the burgers 😭. It was 6 of us only 2 were able to eat (but we shared their burgers 🤧), the 4 of us we suffered the sweet saucy ribs ,sweet pork shorts, salty chips, dry tasteless stake, and the mash with oil.
We went there with high hopes, but I was disappointed 😞. The food really ruined my friend 's...
