This was one of those places for me where I had good child hood memories, of taking a trip with my parents on a . Saturday to go and have lunch. We always enjoyed the proper authentic food. My favourite was always the prawn curry and rice. Incredibly spicy, and the way I liked it, even at age 12. Yesterday we visited The Golden Peacock at the Oriental plaza and placed an order for Mutton Bunny, prawn curry (of which I was told in order to get a decent portion of curry and prawns I would need to buy the rice separately) and we ordered a hamburger for my son. This was a takeaway meal. We got home in 15 minutes of buying the food to have lunch. We were very disappointed. The Mutton bunny was a piece of hard bread, with a small container shoved in the middle with very little Mutton curry in it. I believe this was a deconstructed bunny, which is new thing that some places do... My opinion... DONT DO IT. When you buy a bunny it's suppose to come filled to the top with curry and meat and if not a massive potato in the middle, then at least few small pieces. This didn't even fill the small piece of bread . The bread was hard, even when trying to heat for a few seconds to try and make it soft and my husband could not eat it. Now to the prawn curry I was so looking forward to. Well, again, there goes a great child hood memory. The prawns were rubbery, the curry had no spice and it tasted like a sour tomato gravy. If I wanted tomato chutney I would have made it myself. My son's hamburger was not worth R50 I am sorry. The patty was very small and not cooked properly. I had to re cook it at home so my child could eat it. Based on past reviews you say you cater for the masses and it's hard to find just the right mix of spices. In my opinion you got it right the first time many years ago. Not sure what changed. The standard has gone down from What I remember and the food was nothing like what I remember . Last Saturday being the 1 June 2024 I decided to take my family for lunch at this shocking disgusting restaurant late afternoon .The food that was served was of a very poor standard and over priced.One family member ordered burger with chips while eating found a live cockroach enjoying the meal as well .The rolls given was stale and make this not known it was toasted certain places of the roll .The chips just boiled potatoe strips and placed in the stale tolls. Four of us ordered different meals from their shocking menu not knowing the meals was meant to be in the bin and not sold to us .The owner was immediately called verified the cockroach in the meals not even apologizing or even wanting to replace. I personally let him have a mouthful of how to run a food outlet and importance of fumigation on a regular basis. I don't think they hold a health certificate to operate in this unprofessional, unpleasant and extremely poor quality food served to the public .PLEASE people out there don't even support places like the Golden Peacock based in the Oriental Plaza , Fordsburg.The owner and staff seriously had to undergo training in maintaining cleaniness, good quality check and manners on how to treat people. Their prices is shocking for poor quality of meals produced . The public should not support restaurant like Golden Peacock. Not impressed with the food they provide. Ordered a chip roll, they put about 6 slices of potatoe in the roll with a teaspoon of lettuce and carrot., I mean how is that a meal? The price was R48 for a roll with such little chips. Secondly they don't provide you with any sauces to accommodate your meal. Poor waiter couldn't even answer and kept saying he is waiting for the stuff🤔🙈 the meal was finish by the time the sauces arrived. provide a better service guys and show some sort of knowledge and make yourself known by asking if everything is OK. Even tried to tip the waiter, for the little efforts he showed, he didn't even take the tip, iv never known any waiter not to accepts tips 🙄

You charge Alot for simple meals, add a cherry on top.

I will not eat there again, sorry for my first time sitting there, left a bad taste...
