Jimmys Killer Prawns Norwood — Restaurant in Gauteng

Over the weekend we celebrated my birthday and i had a severe carving for cream spinach. So on Saturday afternoon we skipped lunch and set off to settle our stomachs. We immediately found parking and headed up to the resturant. We were welcomed at the door and shown to a table. The restaurant was not busy so we didn't have to wait to be seated or served. The place was decorated quite modern and the tables and cutlery were clean and waiting to be used. Coming from being a regular at the PMB branch i had high expectations. We ordered the chili cheese garlic bread that was warm and a little spicy, we also got the grilled halumi cheese and we ordered the crumby wings and chips off of the kids menu. However our server only brought wings to the table. For drinks i had a pina colada which was not very sweet and refreshing. For our mains we had the jimmys sizzler with t-bone steak, lemon butter prawns and corn and chips for sides. We also had the chiken filet covered in sauce with a side of chips and cream spinach. The meal was overall delicious besides the fact that we had asked for extra lemon butter sauce on the side and that now makes two iteams forgotten. To be honest, writing this review is rather tricky as the experience was a hit and a miss, although there was more misses than actual hits.

We had dinner on the 26th of December 2022, the establishment was not too busy, and we got seating rather quickly.

With regard to the meals, we ordered the steak strips as a starter (cannot remember the exact name of the dish) however, nothing to really write about. It was bland and really lacked flavour.

Although the spicey wings were truly amazing, really enjoyed it.

The main dishes - I ordered a double cheesy burger bomb, except the burger itself was really a flop. The cheese tasted like cheese slices that were microwaved together to form a blob. The burger patties were tiny, in fact it looked as if - it was one patty that was sliced three times to form three smaller patties. In addition the burger itself looked cheap and for the price you can honestly go to other places that serve amazing burgers within the same price range - such as Pizza Del Forno and Cafe Riviera both establishments are situated at Killarney Mall - approx 3kms away from Norwood.

The other guests enjoyed their meals, one ordered a prawn dish, and the other ordered a steak dish.

However the experience was really lacking, for me personally speaking. If you looking for prawns - sure go to Jimmy's, although if you looking for burgers or other meals, I would rather suggest you go...

When I was 5 years old I accidentally swallowed a shrimp while swimming in the Durban sea. It was the most disgusting thing I had ever tasted that I never ate anything again for the rest of my life other than bread and water.

Yesterday, 20 years after the incident, I was at Jimmy’s Killer Prawns for my friends birthday. Everyone ordered large platters of prawns while all I ate was garlicless garlic bread.

At some point during our dining, the manager came to check in on us. As he turned around to continue his job of managing, his hand knocked a prawn out of my friends plate and straight into my mouth.
