We were loyal supporters of mugg & bean. We loved the cuppachino. But at Menlyn's Mugg & Bean in Pta we experienced so much bad, that we never want to be customers at any Mugg & Bean ever again.. Our order was all wrong from beginning to end. My husband got his cuppachino but the waitress forgot to order mine. She blamed it on someone else. We waited forever for everything. It was very quiet and waiters were standing in groups joking, laughing and chit chatting. Our food order took very long in general and when it arrived my food was not what I ordered either. Nobody wanted to take responsibility for the bad service&incorrect orders. One waiter said that is unfortunately the "only" bread available they have to make toasted sandwiches with. I wasn't informed before ordering, that the bread is finished, because according to the manager, the choices of bread were available. A convenient lie apparently. Like another lie "our biscuits are in the oven at the moment". The manager was called by another waiter that noticed everything was wrong. The manager was "very sorry" about the poor service, the lies, the unwillingness from waiters to behave responsible, and the neglect that we experienced all along. Since we have already waited too long at that time, we had to eat and leave in a hurry with dissapointment that will remain, and we will not be easily convinced to go back. Damage permanently done. No pride for employees in their work. Like so many franchise retaurants, Mugg&Bean has gone from "tops" to rock bottom in service and food over the years. What a shameful and unnessary story to add to...

Wanted to have breakfast, when I got to the entrance there werw 4 ladies who pretented not to see me an asked for the menu and all of them walked away, then I grabbed the menu without taking any notice their the waitresses attitude.

I looked at the menu and I asked to order then no one was willing to serve, then one of the four witnesses came to me and asked who gave me the menu?

I still didn't notice that I wasn't welcomed. She then suggested we go with her towards the cake stands so that she can take my order.

I wasn't even offored a table, she took my order while standing and suggested I do take-away instead. Fine I ordered take-away. Had to wait till my order was ready. Then went outside grabbed a chair to have my muffin and a filter coffee. A sat there for while and I was the only person sitting there, when a young couple of a certain colour came and sat far across me, the same lady that had sold me my breakfast told me that I need to leave the onwer of the table wants it available for her customer's.

What made me realise that I wasn't welcomed is that, while taking my order the with blonde braides tells me of how her fellow collegues don't want to serve black people because they don't tip.

I have never felt like a non human in my entire life. I was a waitress and what I have observed was and still a disgarce. Never setting my foot there. Mug...

Firstly I would love to start by saying I love Mugg & Bean. I love the food there especially the freshly baked carrot cake. I’ve been to different mugg & beans all around SA cos that’s where I have all my breakfast meetings but I’ve never seen anything like today. Mathapelo from Menlyn mall, that waitress is plain rude. This lady has absolutely no home training. She is definitely not hospitality/customer service material. Please vett your employees before you hire them. There’s so many unemployed youth that would die to have a job like hers, but takes that for granted. Mugg & bean is too good of a franchise to compromise their reputation cos of ungrateful waitresses like Mathapelo. I honestly could’ve caused a scene in there but I had to respect other customers who want to enjoy their food in peace. I decided to take the high road and leave a review instead. Mathapelo from Menlyn mall you are very rude. Now I don’t ever want to go back to the Menlyn franchise ever cos of poor customer service. But I won’t let one rotten potato affect my opinion on mugg & bean. Thank you...

We were served by Victoire. His service was not the best. We ordered a rare beef baguette which came well done and a rice chicken and veggie bowl. The rice was mushy did not even seem rice. Chicken was dry but veggies were really good. Sauces were brought to us completely empty, which was kind of weird and defeated the whole point of bringing sauces. Filtered bottomless coffee was ordered but we were only offered a refill once we were over with the meal, so we declined. When they brought the bill, they wanted to charge us for bottomless coffee even tough we only had one cup. When we asked for this to be rectified, he said he could but he would need to go and rectify the bill, so we kindly asked him to do so, which seemed to bother him as when he brought the bill back he had removed the candy he first brought with the bill. Very very disappointing experience.

I really do love a good Mugg & Bean visit, but this particular restaurant felt like it was hitting the target a bit too low. The smell of the freshly baked muffins was great, as always, and the waiter was quick to show us a table. There were a couple small things, however, that chipped away at the experience. My partner received chips instead of the asked-for salad; I received a half-used butter instead of a closed one; the table was sticky, and the plates were wet after coming out of the dishwasher; some of the crockery was chipped; and the waiter was short R10 change. Of course, individually, these are mistakes. Collectively, however, it makes you question the management and the pride of the staff.

I love this Mugg n Bean, I never fail to visit when I'm in the mall. The food and service is always good. My last visit was a bit bland cause I was trying the new chef Mokgadi meals & this time around I was sorely disappointed by that sorghum and mushroom dish. It lacked a little flavour. They could have added a sprinkling of salt to balance the soft flavours of the sorghum & mushroom respectively. Nonetheless, my waitress was a breeze - she usually is (and I forget her name now). So, definitely go for the service & perhaps don't be too adventurous in your meal choices 😂
