Dining at Ocean Basket Menlyn Mall was nothing short of delightful. From the moment we arrived, the warm and welcoming reception set the tone for what turned out to be an exceptional evening.

Our party of two settled in for dinner and ordered a combination of King Prawns with Calamari, accompanied by seasoned yellow rice and a perfectly balanced lemon butter sauce—all served in Ocean Basket’s signature metal tray that evokes a sense of authentic coastal charm. My companion opted for the fish bites, which were golden, flaky, and full of flavor—truly a standout dish.

The drinks were ice-cold and refreshing; nothing hits quite like a crisp beer after a long day. We wrapped up the evening with a rich, warm Malva pudding that hit every note of indulgent, sweet comfort.

As someone who has visited Ocean Basket locations from Cape Town to Pretoria, I can confidently say this branch upholds the highest standards of the chain. The food was fresh, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. What made the experience even more memorable was the exceptional service. The waitstaff were attentive and genuinely friendly, and management checked in to ensure everything was up to par—which it absolutely was.

We held my father in law's 70th birthday at Ocean Basket in Menlyn, and we were treated like royalty. The booking had been made before-hand, and the manager of the restaurant knew it was his 70th birthday. The manager waited at the door for him, to especially greet him.

At the table we were served fresh rolls, and table salads. The rolls were freshly baked and the salad crispy - this was very welcome, because we were a little hungry already!

The waiters were very attentive to our orders. My father is allergic to shellfish, and had gave specific instructions to his food. The restaurant had no issue on assisting with the specific allergy in preparing his food.

When we received our food, the food had been served hot and delicious, and would definately recommend coming here and would myself return with my family. The fish was very fresh, and delicious.

We had ordered oysters, as a birthday treat for my father, and were pleasantly surprised on how fresh this was too. I am not a big fan on oysters, but realised I had never tasted a fresh one! It was good.

We were truly spoiled here at this Ocean Basket in Menlyn, and will spread the word - come all, young and old. This is where you will find good food, good service and good company.

Food was disappointing. Our starters were good, although I had the rice and hulumi fried balls as I wanted to try something new, and that was a wierd thing to put as a starter, because it's a ball full of rice, very filling, very starchy. Not an item for a starter... Why would you want to fill up your customers with a starchy starter? So I had it, got the t-shirt, don't recommend it. Then our food arrived, fish and calamari combo, and a platter for one, it was luke-warm to cold. My wife first said her food was cold, and when I took a bite of my fried calamari, my calamari was cold and chewy. So we called the waiter over and the manager happened to be at our table at the same time, so they took our plates away, and made it over and we recieved new food about 2 minutes later which was super hot. Really appreciated it, but my only thought was that my fried calamari was still chewy, hot, but chewy. Every time I eat here, there's a little voice that goes off in my head over and over again.... "OB Brooklyn Square is better!" and it is better. In the perfect world, all franchises will all be exactly the same but... We don't live in that perfect world. Some branches are just better...
