I always love catchups with my friends. It's great seeing familiar faces after such a long time. As a result we also try to pick new places to try.
The Lucky spot chosen was Streatery SA in Midrand. I've always had my eye on the one in the north but I probably go out that direction once a year. So imagine my delight when I saw a branch opening in Midrand. It's been open for about 4 months now.
So off we went for brunch. Luckily it was nice and quiet with a slight breeze. We sat outside to enjoy the fresh air. Our waiter Noel was so sweet and on the ball, he gave us such great service.
They have some really funky menu options, so I'll have to go back to try more items. My friend and I had the Pepper Pig, and the Chicken and Waffles along with a Cappuccino and Hazelnut Latte.
My pepper pig was delicious, my eggs were done perfectly ie.. runny yolk. (Bacon, Chorizo, fire roasted peppers, eggs and Chipotle hollandaise sauce on a english muffin). The Chicken and Waffles also looked great (Crispy chicken thighs, bacon and Chorizo on a Waffle with warm maple syrup)
As it got hotter we couldn't resist one of their cocktails. I had to try their Cosmopolitan, followed by the Midsummer (Hendricks midsummer solstice gin, shaken with freshly squeezed lemon, cranberry juice and natural Pear extract. Served with Ice and Lemonade)
My friend had the Street Colada and the Lynchburg Lemonade, which looked really thirst quenching.
For dessert we shared the Cinnamon Churro Waffle, with a Peanut butter & Nutella frozen custard. It did take a bit long to arrive but it was worth the wait. The Waffles were delicious, I only had a small taste of the frozen custard as I'm currently staying away from certain dairy items.
If you have adventurous taste buds, I suggest you go here. Check out the menu online and see what peaks your interest.

Read moreWe were very excited to try this place out. Menu sounded very interesting.
After 30 minutes of no service while being sat at a booth, had to get up and ask for service for drinks. Ginger Shirley and Blueberry "mojito" took another 24 minutes to arrive. Both extremely underwhelming in taste. Later on ordered Rooibos cooler, just tasted like a hint of rooibos in a whole lot of ice water.
We both ordered Chicken & Waffles. At least another 40 minute wait time, with no word from the waiter at all during the entire time. Food eventually came to the table cold, so that was confusing.
It was just around midday. There were no more than 7 tables in total in the entire diner so we actually couldn't understand why the service was so slow and lackluster.
Menu stated that the Chicken&Waffles were served with Maple syrup but what we actually got served was a little metal ramekin of cheap, very thick "golden syrup." Taste wise, the chicken was well cooked albeit on the very oily/greasy side. Honestly the service was just so incredibly poor that we were put off from the entire experience. If there is another branch somewhere, we might try it just to see if there's a difference.
Otherwise, major disappointment and Honestly, we would never ever go back to the Waterfall Ridge branch. The only time the waiter was slightly prompt was when we asked for our bill and he stood over us to enquire about his tip. (As someone who works in the service industry, this act was just unprofessional and also quite unpleasant for...
Read moreI'm still reeling from the horrific breakfast experience at Streatery this morning. The meal was an unmitigated disaster, and I'm compelled to warn others to think twice before setting foot in this establishment.
The breakfast plate, which looked promising at first, was a travesty. The avocado, neatly sliced by a human hand (I'll give them that), was unmistakably rotten. The slimy texture and putrid smell were unmistakable. How does a kitchen serve rotten produce with a straight face?
The rest of the meal was unremarkable, but the rotten avocado overshadowed everything. It's inexcusable for a restaurant to serve spoiled food, especially when presentation is clearly a priority.
Major Red Flags:
Quality control: How did rotten avocado pass inspection? Kitchen hygiene: What else might be lurking in the kitchen? Lack of attention to detail: Did no one notice the avocado's condition?
Advice:
Avoid Streatery until they address their quality control issues. Don't risk your health and palate on a potentially spoiled meal. Take your business (and appetite) elsewhere.
Will I Return?
No. And I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
To [Streatery]:
Take this review as a wake-up call. Overhaul your quality control processes, retrain your staff, and prioritize customer safety and...
