Update, manager never got back to us…

After a long day of travelling, we wanted some lunch and found the lookout online which had decent reviews and a decent menu. The atmosphere was nice, and our server was lovely. We ordered two chicken burgers with chips (A very simple meal) which looked nice on the menu with a slice of pineapple. After a surprisingly long wait (due to the restaurant, being very quiet and the simplicity of the meal) our Burgers were brought out without the pineapple and our server Apologised and said the kitchen was out, I would’ve liked to have known that one of the main ingredients was missing before I got my food because I probably would’ve ordered a pizza or something else instead. The chips were nearly chewy and the burger ended up being extremely bland And the Secret sauce just tasted like a buttery mayonnaise, The chicken was soggy, the single single slice of cheese wasn’t melted, and that didn’t seem to be any seasoning apart from a tiny bit of chicken salt, on the chicken…… The manager came and asked how our food was And we explained the above and she apologised, then we were offered a drink each on the house, I wasn’t going to have anything alcoholic because I had to drive so I ordered a mocktail And my girlfriend ordered a simple cocktail, after about five minutes, the manager came out and blamed the server for not explaining that they can only offer a soft drink or coffee as compensation. We didn’t like the back-and-forth and the miscommunication and still had a long way to travel that day so we asked for the bill and were on our way. Anyways, an extremely average experience.

And there were cats wandering around...

The Lookout Deck boasts one of the most breathtaking seaside views in Plettenberg Bay, perched right on the beachfront, it offers an unbeatable backdrop of ocean and horizon while you dine. The option to sit inside or outside is a plus, and the gentle sea breeze adds something special to the experience. The menu is varied, with almost daily specials and occasional live performances. While we appreciate live music, the upbeat style on the night felt a little mismatched to the setting—we would’ve loved something more relaxed to complement the sound of the waves and tranquil atmosphere.

We ordered the grilled hake, which arrived fairly quickly and well portioned, but unfortunately, both portions were overcooked. The side dishes, however, crispy chips and fresh salad, were excellent. Although the waitress was friendly, service was somewhat slow and a few requests were left unattended. Despite this, when we raised the issue, a manager responded promptly, apologized sincerely, and arranged for our meals to be redone. The replacements were superb—tender, perfectly cooked, and truly delicious. The coffee that followed was excellent, and we appreciated the senior staff checking in personally to ensure all was well.

All in all, a pleasant and memorable date night with my wife. We’d gladly return and look forward to...

We thoroughly enjoyed the food, just unfortunate that the service was super slow. The food was taking quite a time to come out of the kitchen. We could notice that the other tables were getting restless. Some tables were waiting more than 2hours for their food! We ordered after them and got our food before them, when we left some still haven't gotten their food. I would also recommend that the waiters make sure that the right cutlery are provided when serving meals. This was also a problem with most tables.

The poor manager was running around trying to keep te customers happy and communicating with the kitchen to be faster as the people were waiting. What was sad to see was the young waiters were having a nice chat behind the bar for quite a while. They did not clean the tables nor attended to the customers. The manager should have told them straight, because when new customers came in they did not want to sit at the dirty tables and then had to wait a while for the waiters to clean the table.

You have a great location and Devine food. Unfortunately the manager and waiters still need loads of training. If not you will...

It's been a couple of years since I was at TLD, and things have gone down a lot. It's very expensive compared to other places in the area for similar dishes, but they have a great view, so fair enough. However, the quality is bad too. A classic strawberry daiquiri should have some strawberry in it, but it does not. They could even try adding frozen if it's not in season... But they don't. At R120, you basically get red mixadrink syrup juice. It's red, and that is where it ends. No real strawberries at all, just clear red syrup, and no flavor, can't even taste any rum. It tastes terrible. The only vegetarian burger option is beyond burger, which is extremely disappointing. The view is the best part, and if you only having brand drinks, not cocktails, you will be OK, although it will hit your wallet hard. R180 for a vegetarian burger is a joke.
