Vista Do Mar — Restaurant in George

Bad experience, wouldn't recommend to anyone.

We are from Pretoria and enjoy Portuguese food. We went to Vista do Mar based on that.

We waited almost an hour for our food. We ordered pork espatada, chicken espatada and calamari. I would have refused otherwise but we were hungry so we had to eat it.

The chicken and pork was dry and stringy. The meat was also not on the skewer as per usual which means it was handled. The chicken espatada also had wings on the plate which is difficult to eat especially with utensils, and espatadas are ordered precisely for ease of eating. Wings also contain less meat and more bones than the regular deboned thigh meat on espatadas.

The sauce on both the pork and calamari looked like it came from a plastic bag and was just heated up. The vegetables also looked and tasted like it was previously frozen. The calamari had a rubber texture and the portion was tiny.

And that at quite a high price. We don't mind paying for food but at this kind of price it is just a rip off.

I wouldn't serve food like that to my customers.

The waitress Lisa was very friendly. I gave a complaint to her in writing and asked her to give it to the manager or owner.

What a wonderful experience I had at this restaurant! All the staff from the owner through to Gherwin who attended to me were absolutely fantastic. Really good food and service! After being forbidden by a well known establishment at the same Spar centre to use my laptop whilst I ordered and paid for a full meal (had 2 previous less than pleasant or even satsifactory experiences there but as everyone rave about this place, I decided to give them another go as I understand sometimes things just go wrong, but now they will not getting any Stars in my book) what a lovely surprise Vista Do Mar restaurant was. Give them a try, I am sure you won't be dissapointed. I felt so welcome, they even encouraged me to eat the first establishment's food at their pIace which I asked to put in a take away as I was not allowed to carry on working on an urgent deliverable, having a meal whilst my car was being washed). I off course declined, ordered Vista Do Mar's chicken livers which I can truly recommend. I hope the friendly guys at the great carwash at the same centre at least enjoyed the first establishment's food.....Vista Do Mar, you have just won one lifelong customer. Beautiful ocean...

Pretty awful experience, went here because reviews seemed genuinely good. Made a telephonic booking and arrived later that evening, no record of the booking existed. It was luckily sorted out quite quickly. This was only a minor inconvenience.

The real problem was that of the food. Honestly wished I'd just made something at home. Steak tasted old, parts of it under-cooked and parts of it over-cooked, rest of the mains and starters equally disappointing. The side veggies weren't too bad but not great either.

Also sitting in a smoke filled room for the duration of your dinner (not cigarettes but smoke from the braai/grill) your eyes eventually burn and tear, it's just a genuinely bad experience. Had to wash everything we wore quite thoroughly afterwards.

On a plus side, they were generous with their wine...
