The whole experience was terrible. We have been visiting and traveling through South Africa for the last two months and been dining out at some of the best restaurants. This is our first unsavoury and unprofessional experience. We have gotten used to the wonderful quality and caliber we have been experiencing throughout the rest of the country. This restaurant did definitely fall short on all levels. We had high expectations of Cafe Gannet as it looks lovely and has a great views. We and coincidentally another group of color were seated in the corner of the restaurant.
We ordered the sushi as the appetizer for the table which was great and it all went down hill from there. After we finished our appetizer it took over one and a half for the mains to arrive and that was only after we brought it to the attention of the manager. There were four other tables in our vicinity where the patrons arrived after us and were served before us. The other table of color also received tardy service.
When our main meals finally arrived we were given a story about how one of the entrees was burnt by the chef and they had to prepare another one. Talk about adding insult to injury; the other patrons had ordered similar items, how did they end up getting their entree before us and what about the other meals for the rest of the table were the just kept under the burner? All the food with the exception of the sushi was subpar.
We were celebrating our anniversaries and this place totally ruined and marred a special day for us. We couldn’t leave the place fast enough (just like the other group). The perfect thing that captures the whole experience and attitude of the restaurant (particularly the manager Devieince) was as we were about to pay our bill, they brought out a scope of ice cream with a sparkler on top on a large platter with happy anniversary written in chocolate to be shared between the two of us.
There are many other wonderful restaurants in the area including the Pinnacle Point go...
Read moreTo whom it may concern, I am writing to express my sincere disappointment with a most recent negative experience at your restaurant, The Gannet, in MosselBay. As patrons of 11 years since our retirement to this area, my wife and I feel the need to express our dissatisfaction concerning a customer care issue that needs to be addressed. Our primary concerns revolve around your loyalty program and recent promotional offers: Loyalty Program Issues: Persistent technical problems with your loyalty application have made it inaccessible on occasions, necessitating the staff to suggest manually updating the accumulation of points etc. On one occasion before departing, whilst trying to settle our bill we waited 20 minutes for a manager to resolve a technical issue with the program on your system before we could settle our bill. Our requests for physical loyalty cards have gone unfulfilled despite multiple inquiries. Misleading Promotional Offer: We each received an SMS on September 17th offering R100 vouchers valid only until the end of the month, which seemed restrictive to the balance of the month only. When attempting to use these vouchers on September 25th, we were informed of an undisclosed condition which required a minimum spend of R250 per voucher thus separate bills were necessary to use both vouchers. These conditions were not mentioned in the original offer, which we found very misleading. Billing Complications: Settling our bill became a further 20-minute ordeal requiring manager intervention, which is unacceptable for a well-established restaurant. We do enjoy visiting the Gannet restaurant and will continue to do so, however after these experiences we've concluded that your loyalty program, as it currently operates, is not providing any value or benefit and the continued technical issues we have experienced, coupled with the lack of follow-through on our requests, have made participation more frustrating than...
Read moreWhat an appalling night tonight at Cafe Gannet. We are new parents and this was our first night out for dinner in 6 months and ofcourse we go to the supposed best restaurant in Mosselbay, which has been delivered in the past but tonight, I am without any words. Disappointing is not a good enough description. Understaffed and overpacked restaurant... why should I book a table if anyone can pop in and more tables get added to serve additional customers. This is supposed to be an exclusive restaurant with great culinary skills and service, and none of that was up to scratch this evening, so why add more tables to accommodate more customers in return of your waiters who bear the consequences and your regular customers not receiving the usual up to standard service and food. I cannot begin to explain the chaos in the restaurant this evening. I ordered Calamari and hake which for cafe gannet "the house of fish" should be a star dish, I could not even finish my food it was that horrific.. the fish tasted frozen, my calamari was rubbery my chips were cold, my husband ordered lamb curry which was below subpar no flavour profile. Might I add that we waited nearly 1h 30 mins for our food after being told after 1h the food is nearly ready to be served. Your managers have very little professionalism after we explained how disappointing the food was they had very little to say. I will add that we were offered a free dessert as an apology but to be honest with you we do not need a freebie, we simply wanted a lovely date night with great food and service from a restaurant we know always deliveres but unfortunately tonight was a big miss and after being customers for 3 years I really will need to reconsider visiting your restaurant and raving about it to...
