Mario's Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Green Point

I would like to share my experience over charging and aggresive behavior from "waiter" or possibly manager, the restuarant was full due to the springboks playing, they offered us place at the bar. I ordered a round of 5 beers of which was R250. I then ordered another round of 5 and was charged R350. I asked the manager for my receipt and slip, He refused to give it to me and claimed I had shooters. I then asked for a Menu to verify prices of which he told me everyone down the strip charges R55 a dumpie castle lite. I again asked to see my receipt to verify this, at this stage he started screaming at me and and swearing of which I retaliated and called him out for overcharging patrons, He then told me to leave, I didn't and He proceeded to give me R200 cash, I then spoke to a calm younger gentleman behind the bar who was understanding but the older guy then acted aggressive and the younger waiter physically had to hold him back as he wanted to physically fight me. I told the old lady at the entrance I was disappointed as we wanted to have a late lunch there and that I wanted to go there for years, my daughter and family was also with me. I am disgusted by the behavior. I should of got the police...

I often passed this authentic Italian Restaurant from another era to be hugely disappointed. They were very busy but no excuse to serve a Beef Marsala with nothing resembling the real thing. I had this in Italy and great restaurants in Johannesburg. . There are several recipes to make this simple dish. I could not taste any Marsala, did not expect wild mushroom but at least exotic mushrooms. The dish is served with mash or even pasta rice to mop up the sauce. The meat is crisply fried, the sauce is made in the pan with the Marsala scraping the pan juice, the cream added and all blend together. Received bland meat uneven thickness with a thin cream sause and brocoli. I had a peek at the pizza delivered to other tables, glad I did not order. I do not recommend unless you want to slurp up...

Absolutely fabulous! Came here for a solo dinner on the penultimate night of my stay, and I couldn’t have made a better choice. I was looking to shed the noise and fanfare of nearby sports bars and tourist attractions. I was met with a pleasant welcome, and felt at home immediately. My waitress let me open the specific window in front of my table, and I lived my best life sipping wine and indulging in amazing food. I selected the local Cab/Sav, and a three cheese gnocchi pasta. Everything was heavenly (truth be told, the wine was nothing special- but once my food came, and the tastes were joined together, it was a game changer).
