Last night was supposed to be the grand finale of our very enjoyable ten day Garden Route tour. We invited local family to join us for a total of five people. Since we stayed in a guest house the Heritage was chosen for its views and close walking distance from our location. We found an outdated menu online on a review website and the restaurant’s website did not include an updated menu. The wine list was limited and overpriced. The menu was also limited, but we were fine to sacrifice variety for potential quality. However, the food was standard and presentation unimaginative. No bread was served, not even with the mussel starter. The calamari on the seafood platter was cold, dry, and tasted like paper. We opted for Irish coffees and coffee for desert to avoid further disappointment. The redeeming qualities of our experience were the tasty mussel starter, the fresh cob, and the service from our waitress. Management seemed loud, on edge, and rushed. In hindsight, I wish we had chosen a...
Read moreWe returned this year to find the quality of the food has dropped. It's the most expensive meal we've eaten since arriving in SA a month ago (and we've had some wonderful food) but the quality of the dishes makes it poor value for money.
For example the confit duck was cooked but didn't fall off the bone as it should when confited correctly. This gave the impression of being roast duck legs and were quite dry and tough. And everything was drowned in an overstrong mushroom sauce ... It seemed to lack finesse.
Another example was the line fish. It was served with rice, roast veg and butternut squash puree. Each was ok on its own but a lack of jus or gravy made it acdish of four bits rather than a harmonious dish what were each part complimented the others.
The wine was good but the markup seems excessive when the wholesale price is considered .
We had hoped to visit heritage cottage at least twice during our stay but didn't feel it warranted a second visit.
So sad after previous...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Heritage Restaurant in Hermanus, and it was a truly delightful experience! The fresh hake with lemon butter sauce and chips was expertly prepared and presented, and while the portion was modest, it was more than enough to satisfy my appetite. The real pièce de résistance was the stunning ocean view, which was only enhanced by the cozy warmth of the fireplace on a gloomy day. I couldn't resist the temptation of the trio ice cream with drizzled orange sauce - a decadent treat that did not disappoint! The service was top-notch, with attentive wait staff and a personal touch from the chef/owner who took the time to come out and greet us. Overall, Heritage Restaurant is a must-visit destination for anyone in the area the food, view, and hospitality are all...
