We finally tried Mount Everest after over 2 years in Hermanus! We always put it off because in Jhb we lived up the road from Fordsburg and Mayfair, we've been to India several times AND we both cook awesome curries, so didn't give them much hope of living up to all of those expectations, but a few nights ago, neither of us felt like cooking and we took the plunge... And I'm so pleased we did! The samoosas were tasty... A little different from the flat triangular variety, but the potato curry inside was great. The lamb briyani was great. Lots of tender chunks of boneless lamb and very tasty.. Just a weirdly odd amount of carrots mixed in.. Ah well. The carrot (again) salad accompaniment was excellent but we didn't get the raita that was promised... Then the dish of the night was the chicken kadai... A gorgeous thick gravy over tender chunks of chicken. Superb... I'll go back for that dish alone, but maybe try it with lamb next time. The naan was a little disappointing as it had that chewy just been microwaved vibe which was then steamed on the way home. Pity We WhatsApped out order through and received a reply when the food was ready... See you guys soon... Only remembered the pics half way...

I am a long time self-taught cook. I, doing the lions share at home. I am after nearly 6 decades of kitchen challenges and nowadays far more successes than failures hard pressed to fork out money for restaurant type meals unless they walk the talk.
Mount Everest Indian Takeaway is one such place! The food is spicy, hot, diverse and authentic Indian Cuisine.
If I am willing to jump in my car wait a mere 20 minutes to get my order having not pre-ordered and return home a 20km roundtrip, that in itself is testimony to my regard for their food.
Make a visit and indulge yourself!
Sorry no...

The two lamb dishes we tried were perfect: the korma was rich and creamy with the right amount of cardamon and cashew coming through, while the rogan josh had a kick without it overpowering the deep warm spices. The naan too was excellent. There were vegetarian, seafood and chicken dishes too and all are reasonably priced. While most patrons seemed to order take aways, eating in was a great option. We even had a small view of the ocean from our window table. If you love Indian food, you're in for a treat at Mount...
