Quarter Kitchen Restaurant — Restaurant in V&A Waterfront

….This is our first visit to this establishment we came to redeem our HYPERLI voucher and enjoy our 3 course gourmet dinner. We had heard about the fabulous Cape-Malay Cuisine they have to offer. We real-lii did not know what meals we were going to be offered as a choice because the voucher eluded to nothing. It was very easy to secure a reservation. On arrival here we found the place to be very impressive, there is a niff-tii bar-counter with seating around it and the door opposite it leads out to the pool-deck with table and chairs offering patrons the choice to have their meals at the pool-deck absolute-lii snazzii. The restaurant itself is very love-lii and gives one immediate-lii the feeling of home-lii-ness, an ambience of its own. The walls are well decorated with photos of the past history of this site as in bygone years this very building housed a prison. On duty tonight was Nuhur and Mbu and it was Nuhur who tended to us in a very professional way and he was not only good at his job but had an incredible sense of humour affording us the pleasure of enjoying our meals with a smile on our faces. We started the night off with a bottle of BACKSBURG (Summer Berry) ROSE’ 2022. A love-lii fresh crisp wine that tingled the taste-buds. We now discovered that for the HYPERLI deal they had a different menu-card offering: - STARTERS a choice of 3 dishes to choose from. MAINS a choice of 5 dishes to choose from and DESSERTS a choice of 3 to choose from. And our starters were: - 1. MUSHROOM & BRIE-CHEESE SALAD (Fried crumbed mushrooms, baby salt, brie-cheese, figs & honey thyme dressing) 2. CAPE MALAY BASKET (Chicken samoosa, jalapeno rissoles, greek-meatballs & dip) These starters were so scrumptious-lii delicious it had us wondering if we could still have our remaining foods. Main-meals: - 1. SEAFOOD BASKET (Fish goujons, calamari, prawn-tails with fries and tartar-sauce) 2. SIRLOIN STEAK (Grilled beef sirloin served with pepper-sauce & fries) Food was insidious-lii delicious and the steak was of the best cut and prepared just as ordered. Meals served were more then enough so we had to request "Doggii-bags. Desserts: - 1. CARAMEL CHEESECAKE (Baked cheese-cake topped with cream) 2. ICE CREAM (Selection of dark chocolate, vanilla & salted caramel) Absolute-lii a stylish way to end a decent and enjoyable meal and evening well spent….NB! The restrooms are clean and user friend-lii. You can have free guest WiFi just ask for a password. Loads of secure parking as there are hundreds of parking-bays in the basement and before you leave pass the receptionist who will glad-lii validate your parking ticket. Seen that we were unable to savour the Malay-Cuisine it does mean that we will have to visit here again soon in the future. We high-lii recommend this...

I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at Quarter Kitchen Restaurant today the 09/08/2025 between 18:00 and 21:00, which was supposed to be a special celebration for my mother's birthday. Unfortunately, the evening was marred by poor service and disappointing food.

Disappointing Dessert

The final straw was when the dessert took over 20 minutes to arrive. When it finally came, it was shockingly small - literally cut in half. To make matters worse, the message on the dessert plate read "Happy Women's Day," which was not only irrelevant but also showed a lack of attention to detail since I had booked for a birthday celebration

When we tried to speak with the Head Chef, Pako, about the issues, he seemed too busy to communicate with us. It wasn't until the manager, Asanda, stepped in after being called by the supervisor that our concerns were addressed.

Conclusion

Given the poor service and disappointing food, I would not recommend Quarter Kitchen Restaurant for special occasions or celebrations. With an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars based on Google reviews, it's clear that the restaurant has potential, but today's experience fell short of expectations. Perhaps with improved service and attention to detail, Quarter Kitchen can live up to...

On Saturday 2nd of November we decided to celebrate our anniversary again at Quarter Kitchen...we were warmly welcomed by Yolanda who gave us the choice of seating anywhere we were comfortable. She gave us good advice of choices on the menu and the food was outstanding. She had to leave because her shift ended and handed us over to Andiswa who made sure the rest of our meal experience was exceptional...i would like to give a Yolanda Andiswa The Chefs and everyone on duty a Big Praise and Thank You for making our day so special...we look forward to coming back again and telling our friends and family about your beautiful restaurant delicious food and amazing service. Kind...
