Went past there a few times since October 2017 and could not once find parking, this was a clear indication that they were definitely worth the constant attempt to dine there. I was pleasantly surprised with the easy access this time round and at that stage thought it could be because it was nearing month-end and clients were inbetween pay. Though my experience had no distinct issue, I could personally not see what the hype was about. Went on a Monday evening at a time where I could only count about 5 or so tables. It seemed as though they were expecting a big turnout as I counted at least 10 waiters. (Unfortunately some seemed a bit bored to be at work on a not so busy night) The food was acceptable, but not what I expected. Some menu items seemed somewhat out of place. The plating of the mains, in my case a rump steak came accompanied with rice, 2 veggies and a choice of chips or baked potato. The plate was garnished with a slice of orange on a salad leaf. This along with the rice in my opinion was not necessary. The food that I received came in an acceptable time and was a good temperature. The drinks were ice cold and welcoming on such a hot evening. The waitress did an excellent job and took good care of us. A manager was not seen. In general, I would recommend this restaurant to people who like a hearty Sunday meal accompanied with veg at a slightly higher than...

Here on business and there are few good restaurants in Bloemfontein but New York Restaurant (why that name? I don't know) has quality food in a good indoor setting.
I tried to search for other places on Google and many of the places that came up were not good (I drove to them). Gave this place a chance and I'm impressed with the food. The service has also been quite pleasant.
I had fish, the 200g king klip and it was not disappointing. It was served with 4 sides, which came as standard and everything tasted good. I was even persuaded to have baked cheesecake for dessert and that too was gorgeous.
The style is more dark brown leather and white cloth on tables.... relatively unassuming, perhaps stuffy but ok. It's not packed, I'm here on Wednesday night so not sure how it it for the rest of the week. It's got a smoking section by the bar and an outside facing section by the "stoop" (South African slang for balcony type place).
Next time I am here I will probably visit this place again. When you don't want to take chances in Bloemfontein, try New...
Read moreWell managed, not surprising that they own the Chicago restaurant as well as the Hobbit guesthouse. The food is very good and the staff is well trained, very rare in this part of the country. Book before you show up especially over the weekend because they get quite busy. The menu however is a little confusing as the restaurant doesn't have a compass to work with, New York name is ok but there is nothing we know comes from New York when you talk about famous dishes, famous cuisine in South Africa are the Italian, Portuguese, Greek or Indian among others but here you can't tell which side of the taste will you end up having. The interior is beautiful however it lacks the comfortable sofas which these days are a standard for a restaurant of this category. The lighting is also very thoughtful, soft and gentle across the restaurant but I think the floor is a bit busy as they try to pack as many tables as they can given the social distance situation, it's a little...
