last part of gwangjang eats โ netflix aunty!!! iโm sure she is no stranger to anyone who has looked up what to eat at gj market, and this was on my bucketlist ๐ค i purposely came early around 1015am to avoid the queue and was seated in ~10 mins!โฃ โฃ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐ฎ๐ค๐ฌ๐ฎ | โฉ๐๐๐๐โฃ wasnโt very hungry so we didnโt top up โฉ1000 for the version with dumplings and this was basically just handmade knife cut noodles in a clear seaweed soup. while it looked plain, surprisingly it didnโt taste bland though of course itโs not heavily flavoured. i really liked the chewy texture of the noodles, they had a good bite. the warm soup was comforting in the cold weather too. 7/10โฃ โฃ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ-๐๐๐๐ง๐ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐๐จ๐ง | โฉ๐๐๐๐โฃ another classic korean noodle dish, this consists of handmade buckwheat noodles in a cold icy broth. the broth is refreshing and a little tangy, while the noodles are thin but chewy. 7/10โฃ โฃ overall they werenโt mindblowing but for the affordable price iโm glad i got to try these famous noodles ๐ comparing both, we prefer the kalguksu but just considering the taste, i wouldnt go out of my way to queue for more than 10 mins for this. thereโs probably countless of stalls in the same market that sell kalguksu with...

There was quite a long queue, waiting to be seated (it was also lunchtime), but surprisingly it moved quite fast and it was well organized. Although itโs literally in the intersection of two alleyways, in the street, the tables were comfortable and the benches were heated (which was great, considering Seoul had temperatures down to -8 degrees Celsius in the past week).
The food, however, was a bit disappointing, especially considering the hype - we got the Homemade Noodles with the usual side of kimchi, and they were quite bland and tasteless. It was okay (eatable) but actually was one of the worst places we got to eat in while in Seoul - we had much better food in places that were not famous.
Would not eat here again unless I have to and would definitely not go out of my way to come to this place just because itโs popular. Unfortunately, we thought it was highly overrated...
ย ย ย Read moreWe stayed at a hotel nearby so we were fortunate to able to visit this place twice. Both times we arrived around 9:30-10:00am for late breakfast and didnโt have to wait. The queue starts to form quickly from around 10:30 onwards. The staff organising the seating, ordering and payment speaks English and the lady is very nice and sweet.
We loved the kalgukso especially the chewy texture of the noodles and the rich peppery broth. The weather was crisp in the morning, so a hot bowl of kalgukso was so warming. Having tried both the mandu in the soup and steamed, we personally preferred the steamed. The mandu in the soup becomes soggy and falls a part but it infuses with the flavour of the broth. The steamed mandu is firm and texture of the dumpling skin is chewy, you can taste the full flavour of the filling and complimented by the dipping sauce. Itโs really subjective so donโt let it stop you from trying which variant you prefer.
The location on the google map is accurate, look for stall 70. They request one...
