last part of gwangjang eats — netflix aunty!!! i’m sure she is no stranger to anyone who has looked up what to eat at gj market, and this was on my bucketlist 🤓 i purposely came early around 1015am to avoid the queue and was seated in ~10 mins! 𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐠𝐮𝐤𝐬𝐮 | ₩𝟔𝟎𝟎𝟎 wasn’t very hungry so we didn’t top up ₩1000 for the version with dumplings and this was basically just handmade knife cut noodles in a clear seaweed soup. while it looked plain, surprisingly it didn’t taste bland though of course it’s not heavily flavoured. i really liked the chewy texture of the noodles, they had a good bite. the warm soup was comforting in the cold weather too. 7/10 𝐌𝐮𝐥-𝐍𝐚𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐦𝐲𝐞𝐨𝐧 | ₩𝟔𝟎𝟎𝟎 another classic korean noodle dish, this consists of handmade buckwheat noodles in a cold icy broth. the broth is refreshing and a little tangy, while the noodles are thin but chewy. 7/10 overall they weren’t mindblowing but for the affordable price i’m glad i got to try these famous noodles 😎 comparing both, we prefer the kalguksu but just considering the taste, i wouldnt go out of my way to queue for more than 10 mins for this. there’s probably countless of stalls in the same market that sell kalguksu with...
Read moreWe came to this place accidentally, just browsing to the market in the textiles are, without knowing it had become famous due to being featured on Netflix’s Street Food show.
There was quite a long queue, waiting to be seated (it was also lunchtime), but surprisingly it moved quite fast and it was well organized. Although it’s literally in the intersection of two alleyways, in the street, the tables were comfortable and the benches were heated (which was great, considering Seoul had temperatures down to -8 degrees Celsius in the past week).
The food, however, was a bit disappointing, especially considering the hype - we got the Homemade Noodles with the usual side of kimchi, and they were quite bland and tasteless. It was okay (eatable) but actually was one of the worst places we got to eat in while in Seoul - we had much better food in places that were not famous.
Would not eat here again unless I have to and would definitely not go out of my way to come to this place just because it’s popular. Unfortunately, we thought it was highly overrated...
Read moreLike many others, I was super hyped about this place after watching the show and wanted to support the hardworking Cho Yonsoon. The line for this stall is probably the longest in the market, but it is organized well. The wait wasn't too bad, but you'll definitely need time if this stall is on your itinerary.
The seating is uncomfortable because everyone is shoulder-to-shoulder, and it is very hot if you go in the summer. They provide water, but the pitcher looked questionable tbh. You also do not get to pick your seat, so you might get a bad seat and not be able to see any of the food get made. Furthermore, the table is low, so you will be hunched over the entire time.
The noodles and dumplings were served fresh with a side of kimchi. As much as I enjoyed being able to witness the process, I thought the noodles were just okay. They were very thick, and the dumplings were not as flavorful as they could have been. However, it did taste like a comforting, home-cooked meal, and the portions were generous...
