They've been featured in the Michelin Guide for eight consecutive years, from 2017 to now.
Each guest is required to order at least one dish. We visited as a group of three and tried the raw beef, raw octopus, and bibimbap. The downside is the limited options, which might not appeal to those who don't enjoy raw food. But if you do, the flavors are exceptional—I loved it.
All the ingredients were incredibly fresh and fragrant. The raw beef was well-balanced with sliced pear and egg yolk. The live octopus was chewy and mildly tasted like unfried calamari. The bibimbap was just okay. I particularly enjoyed the beef soup with radish, which was naturally sweet and relaxing to the taste.
Is it something worth queuing for? Not sure. Is it nice to try? Yes.
We came on a Saturday afternoon at 3 pm—an unusual meal time—but still had to wait for about an hour. First, you need to register at the restaurant, pick a number, and receive a confirmation email or message. Then, when the system sends a reminder message, you come back to queue. There's no place to sit while waiting, so during the wait, we explored Gwangjang Market, enjoying hotteok at South Gate 2, the Netflix-famous knife-cut noodles, local tteokbokki stalls, and more.
The man supervising the queue was quite rude, which was disappointing. The total bill for 3 dishes...
Read moreThis place is awesome. I didn’t find the texture of raw octopus appealing the last time I had it so I went with the yukhoe (raw beef served on slivers of Asian pear topped with raw egg yolk). I added on a liver + tripe; the waitress graciously let me know that I could do a half order of it, which I really appreciated being able to do.
The beef paired perfectly with the pear and egg. It was so tender and flavorful, and the contrast between the textures was wonderful. I didn’t care much for the tripe, but I loved the beef liver; I wonder if you could just do an order of the liver alone. It had this deep, rich flavor and was so tender, and was not “livery” in taste or smell at all.
I think an order of yukhoe plus a half order of liver+tripe was perfect for me. I’m not sure if a yukhoe alone would have been enough, and the flavor might have gotten tiring had it been the only thing I ordered.
Surprisingly, there was no queue for a table of 1 at 6pm on Friday. Then again, it’s been -12C outside so maybe that’s why lines have been short everywhere. Credit cards accepted. Menu has English and there are English-speaking staff. Friendly service. Expect to spend...
Read moreExtremely long wait with a numbered queuing system. You receive an email telling you you've reached the front of the queue and you have 5 minutes to arrive or you lose your spot. You will be shouted at if you attempt to wait nearby and told to go away. Front host is rude and pretentious and appeared to behave this way as we were not Korean. When seated we were informed we had to each purchase a dish despite the dishes being huge and expensive, that you would only want to share. This was in no way made clear prior to waiting an hour and a half for a seat. The waitress pretended not to understand when I said we weren't going to order more than one. Uncomfortable small tables and chairs. No atmosphere at all. The table was provided with a potato in plain water, which was clearly included in the extortionate price of the dishes. Unclear why this is served. The beef was nice, but by no means any better than any other cheaper, friendlier places with more atmosphere. Save your money. The Michelin recommendations seems to have given this place the green light to drop any quality of service,...
