Excellent. Food was plentiful and well prepared. The view is surprisingly nice. Staff were professional and classy. No problem communicating in English. Service was smooth. We enjoyed the experience and will return.
[Edit] We had an unexpectedly disappointing experience on Christmas eve 2023. The Grand Hyatt does a nice job of decorating for Christmas - lights and poinsettia's everywhere. So, we thought this would be a nice place for a romantic dinner to celebrate Christmas, which is meaningful to me because I am from North America. I booked a table several weeks in advance. I was given a choice of times, so there was more than one table available at that time. On the day, we dressed up and drove into the city, expecting the best. However, people were lined up outside the doors, even sitting on the stairs and various ledges, they wouldn't let us enter even 5 minutes early, and when we did get in they gave us what I think was the worst table in the restaurant. We were in a booth with solid walls on three sides, and my wife was facing a white wall and a black door, right next to the entrance. I assumed that since we reserved so early and since we were among the first people into the restaurant that they would try to seat us in a cheerful, open place where we could see the Christmas decorations, enjoy the atmosphere, enjoy watching the chefs prepare the food in the open kitchen, or maybe even see out the windows, etc. The course menu was roughly 170USD per person (around 220,000 Korean Won), so I assumed there would be some flexibility or at least they would try to help us somehow. I pointed at the many empty tables and asked the host for our table whether we could sit at another table. He simply said no, and then started to push us to decide as quickly as possible which entree to have, and then informed us that we must pay for special bottled water. My wife hadn't even taken her coat off yet. I expected that he might check with the manager to see whether they could make a change, but he didn't. So, we stood up and left, not feeling good about spending money for that kind of experience. I am sure the meal would have been good, but we didn't feel special or cared about at all, and one of the main reasons we choose to celebrate in a 5 star hotel was to feel great.
I'm not changing the star rating, because I think this recent experience is not normal, and usually the place is classy and nice like we found before. However, I suggest being cautious about eating here on very...
ย ย ย Read moreDO NOT EAT THERE. Staying at the Grand Hyatt Seoul. Tried the steak house on the first night. Did not make a reservation but was able to get a table. Tried to order beef short rib but they were out โน๏ธ. No problem, ordered the burger and fries. Not good. Ordered medium well but came very under cooked. Hard to send back because of all of the toppings. Bun was stale. Did not enjoy it. It's ok, chalk it up to no reservation. Did not eat there the second or third night but on the fourth night made a 7:30 reservation. Showed up a few minutes early but they said I'd have to come back. Got seated at 7:30. Ordered the beef short rib and they had it. Great right? Not so fast. Menu description was slow cooked for 72 hours. Meat was not cooked and fatty and hard to cut. Sent back to be cooked more. They brought it back cut into smaller pieces but still under cooked and hard and fatty. I've never had short rib that bad before and I've eaten it all over the world. Told the staff and they said they would talk to the chef about it. Never heard any more. Left the restaurant and...
ย ย ย Read moreIโm sitting here right now and I have many issues with this place. First, they bait and switched the steak I ordered to something 40,000 won more expensive. They donโt have bread you have to buy it. They donโt have water you have to buy it. The fries are served on a flat plate so theyโre cold within 3 minutes. Service was painfully slow. Itโs well known the F&B at this hotel has been subpar for the last 10 years but I think theyโve reached a new low. To be clear, this is a pure criticism of the management and not the staff. The staff is doing the best they can.
If youโre reading this and thinking well he just had a bad experience, if you ordered a 90,000 won steak and they said 10 minutes later, oh weโre out of that but we have the same cut for 130,000, how would you feel about it? You can get an equal or better steak almost anywhere in this town and pay...
