Aside from the fact that when we arrived at our reservation time not only was no one there to greet costumers for at least 5 minutes, we were then told we were “late” for our reservation. (We were 5 minutes late because no one greeted us sooner.) Our waitress was very professional, but obviously new. I asked for rice for my son, which is “arroz” in Spanish. I was brought onion rings, as she understood “aros.” That was actually the least of the issues, since that was quickly corrected & rice was brought out soon after. Ironically, they sat us across from Venture Restaurant’s owner, whom owns Lagarto & several other restaurants in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Evidently, they are the largest restaurant group on the island. Nonetheless, if they don’t do a quick refresher on their management staff—specifically the two men whom where managing the floor on the evening of Wednesday, 8/8/18—their reputation will plummet. We waited over an hour & 20 minutes for our main course (the appetizers did come out within 30 minutes). At some point we asked where was our food. At this point it was passed 10pm & my children were starving (our reservation was for 8:45). This is where these two arrogant buffoons Venture has as part of management could potentially hurt its reputation: first they pretended not to understand Spanish. Then we said it in English to the 2nd arrogant buffoon that came over to tell us the 1st floor manager didn’t understand us. Tip to Venture: make sure your staff knows what “food” means in a few common languages... and “where is it” might be helpful to learn, as well. Nonetheless, because we were seated directly across from Venture Restaurants owner, he noticed our reaction (we laughed at buffoon 1 & 2) and he sent over a lovely 3rd floor manager; a sweet young woman who was extremely apologetic and as sincere as I’m sure her allegiance to her employment allows. Within seconds our food came out... rushed and poorly cooked. So what happened? First night of a new menu was the answer we got. Not good enough, famed Chef Samuel. Not good enough. Not the food, not the attitude, not the over an hour & 20 minutes we waited; none of it good enough. Shame on you. Word to Venture: when your costumers wait a ridiculous amount of time for their meal—& we witnessed several tables complaining around us—it makes costumers, staff and kitchen anxious & uncomfortable. When this happens, staff rushes to quiet and calm the costumer, but the costumer already has a bad taste in their mouth. Add to that the poor food quality as a result of a rushed delivery, this equals: a poor review. This can lead to a downward spiral of...
Read moreThis was by far the best restaurant we visited in Tenerife, and probably one of the best I've visited all year. We had the scallop plus a prawn croquette to start, which were both delicious. The scallop was beautifully fresh, served sliced and raw, with a chilled citrus, ginger and chilli broth - a kind of Asian-inspired ceviche. The prawn in the croquette came through among all the other flavours and it wasn't stodgy or oily at all.
The stand-out dish however was 'Txuleta' dry rice main with sirloin. The flavour in this rice was absolutely insane (think jollof but with the flavour of cripsy chicken skin), topped with honestly some of the best pieces of steak I've ever tasted in my life. For dessert we ordered pistachio ice cream (there's a severe lack of decent ice cream in Tenerife!) and this too was one of the best pistachio ice creams I've ever had. It doesn't say this on the menu, but the pistachio was salted, which isn't something you usually get outside of caramel or dark chocolate - but it worked incredibly well.
Drinks-wise I ordered the cheapest Cava by the class, and even that was delicious and I ended up having 3 glasses. Service was professional and not too overbearing, and the inside of the restaurant was modern and smart-casual. The only slight thing that lets it down is its location away from the seafront, meaning if you're seated on the terrace you basically overlook the road.
With food and drink this good though, nobody is looking at their...

We ordered: 2 two types of oysters 🦪 - fresh. The scallops dish, it was a good combination with the sauce and the pinch of coffee on top. Cheese gratin with 2 types of cheese, Gruyère and blue cheese. The blue cheese was definitely the dominant one, and didn’t feel the Gruyère flavor at all. This one was not really a nice option, however I must say the dough of the quiche was very fresh and crunchy. The lamb shank, which supposed to be their signature dish, was a very disappointing one! The meat was not very tender, lacking both, sauce and flavor. Wouldn’t recommend this at all! Truffle mashed potato, very average and didn’t like it much, as it has very little butter, hence it was a bit dry. They have a good wine selection, tried a Spanish white wine, it was nice! The mocktails are over sweet, full of sugar syrups I guess! The desserts were really nice. We ordered both Mille Feuille and Tiramisu. The service was impeccable, all the runners had an excellent customer service with a really good knowledge and description of each of the served plates. However, the main waitress was not very friendly and didn’t meet the standards of the fine dining experience.
Surrounding: The street/walk around the restaurant offers a beautiful scenery of the beach with an amazing sunset.
Reservation: It is highly recommended to reserve a table beforehand so you can get a nice table.
Bill: We paid around 150 €...
