I was really looking forward to dining here - I adore seafood and sea views, and this offers both in abundance.
While the food was enjoyable, I left feeling like this was a bit of a tourist trap, and many prices are conveniently not listed on the menu. Our waiter strongly recommended langoustines as part of our starter, which turned out to be €80 for two - a bit of a shock when the bill arrived. They were fresh, well-prepared and tasty, but I would never have ordered them if the price had been indicated.
I was enticed by the restaurant's seafront setting, but the terrace is covered two-thirds with glass, which creates a stiflingly hot greenhouse effect in the setting evening sun with no breeze getting through. There's no air conditioning, just a few electric fans which do very little to make it more bearable. As a result, it was really unpleasant being seated there - it wasn't the alfresco beachfront dining experience I imagined.
Our other food, which included garlic prawns, grilled baby squid, grouper and Canarian potatoes, were all well-prepared and tasty. These were priced more reasonably. However, while the fish portions were generous, the advertised vegetables served with them were really just a very small garnish.
When the bill arrived, it was more than €200 for two courses for two people, with one drink each. We honestly left feeling quite ripped off - this was unfortunately the most expensive and least enjoyable dining experience of our 5-day stay in La Caleta.
This restaurant advertises heavily in the local area and seems to rely on the tourist trade. I did enjoy the food but found the rest of the experience uncomfortable due to the heat, and overpriced. I...
Read moreWe have been there for more than 15 years, several times a year, for its good value for money. But that has changed this year. Since the opening of a 5-star hotel at 100 meters , prices have exploded. All dishes and drinks have increased between € 5 and € 10. There is no longer a bottle of wine under 25 €. And a liter of Sangria ( no homemade sangria , we saw a Don Simon tetrabrik ) cost now € 27 , it’s a pure joke. And the dishes are less generous. I paid € 20 for spaghetti with vongole, there were 8 clams on the plate. It’s a shame , 100gr of pasta and 8 clams for € 20 !!! And it’s a shame to take advantage of the opening of this luxurious hotel, to chew up the regular customers. The value for money is in free fall, it has become very expensive for what it is. What a desappointment . We will not go there anymore. From now on, we'll be right next to the Salitre, where the prices are much cheaper, and for a...
Read moreI can only relate to the last couple of reviews. Restaurant is lovely and view is stunning. Starters (fried squid & mussels) were excellent. Main course of linguine with lobster truly exceptional. Fillet steak & chips was only average & the pepper sauce was the thinnest I have ever experienced. Service up until the main course was good, then it all went pear shaped. Main course plates sat there for 30 mins, when eventually taken away, no offer of dessert/coffee. I also had to retrieve the wine and pour it myself. Despite being sat in the centre of the waiting service traffic zone, it is hard to imagine we had been forgotten about. I prefer to use the word ignored. Excuse given was they were busy, more like poor organisation (already mentioned elsewhere). Frustration eventually became anger and for the first time in my life I did not leave a gratuity. One ruined silver wedding...
