Read moreI couldn't believe how empty this place was. Such a shame. The food and service is incredible! I have eaten at a few guia repsol places since I arrived and this was the best food I have had in this area. Flavours were excellent, cooked to perfection. We asked for some help ordering and the waiter suggested a sharing platter, so we could try a few things. We started with minced filled flat bread, has sides of flat bread and labneh (more like tadziki than labneh) and the sharing plate which had tabule, hummus, babaganoush, chicken, lamb, falafel, cauliflower (this was so unexpectedly good!!) and 3 filled pastries (spinach, meat and cheese)
I didn't like the babaganoush, it was very smokey, but everything else was incredible, the first meal here where everything wasn't over cooked!! I was worried everything was going to just be full of garlic like Lebanese in the UK, but the flavours were very good and typically Middle Eastern.
10/10 recommended!!!
Our bill with the above, some baklava, a beer and wine was €50!! Wow! Everyone...
Read moreWe have visited Balconen three times now, and it has quickly become our favourite restaurant on the island. The place has a wonderfully laid-back and welcoming atmosphere, making it perfect for a lovely evening out.
The food itself is simply outstanding. We've tried the chicken and beef shawarmas, mixed skewers, and various combination dishes, and on every single visit, we have been utterly amazed by the flavours, quality, and craftsmanship of the chef. Everything is incredibly fresh and bursting with flavour; the falafel is perfectly crusty, the hummus is silky smooth, and the skewers are wonderfully juicy. The beef and chicken skewers, in particular, were arguably the star of the show. We were also delighted to find that they offer half-bottles of good quality wine. It's a thoughtful and surprisingly rare option that was perfect for us.
We cannot recommend Balconen highly enough....
