The tour of the building was very informative.. I was the only person that day. The architecture is imposing and in construction an impressive use of shuttered concrete, if not a little rough in implementation; the architecture mirrors the mountains in form and texture, using natural and man made materials side by side. The concrete was formed using wood shuttering, which when observed close up, gives the building an organic feel. However I think that sitting the building behind high walls isolates it too much; most people walk past wandering when will it be finished. Peering in through the not so easy to find unobtrusive main entrance, I wondered if the building had been abandoned ? and it struck me that it resembled an underground car park; the architect was going for cave apparently, and oddly you do get a slight feeling of claustrophobia even though the lobby is huge due to the low ceiling. The cafe was shut and it struck me as a missed opportunity as the building needed the buzz of people. During the tour there were just the two of us in the building. Magma hosts events about twice a month and I’m sure this is when the building comes to life. Magma has great facilities for conferences, concerts and theatrical productions, it’s just a shame in my view, that the building is not used...
Read moreThe actual building from the outside is sad, just cement. No indications to where you have to go at the main entrance which can be seen from the street. We went to a candlelight concert last night which was marvellous, found seats comfortable. Really annoying that there was an enormous car park closed, well rather a wired barrier stopping people from parking near the upper entrance. There must have been around 80 or more parking spaces, as they were nicely painted on both sides of the street.Surely it would be viable to permit paid parking to users of the Magma Art & Congress Unitbase via an app. I don’t use a wheelchair but I have health problems. You can park on a piece of waste land to the left of the building but more than likely destroy your car due to the enormous pot holes that are found there. Apart from the parking situation and the lack of information indicating where you had to go,the concert...
