Mayhem.
Having booked a table, we were met with confusion and told-off for booking in the wrong place. I told them inside if weather wasnāt good, outside if it was, they booked us inside, even though the weather was lovely.
We werenāt really that bothered, until we got the āattitudeā.
Inside would have been okay, if we werenāt banging elbows and chairs with the people beside and behind us.
So tight that they couldnāt get in to serve us properly and handed one of us a plate that was roasting hot - the waiter was using a cloth to hand it over.
Maybe customers saying ouch and dropping hot plates is funny.
They never brought our last drinks order, I had nothing to drink for my main course at all, they didnāt take away any dirty glasses, t he table was a complete mess, they just couldnāt cope with the sheer volume of people they cram into this tiny room.
To make it worse, they couldnāt take payments as quickly as people wanted and one of us joined a queue of people at the counter, blocking the access to the toilets and kitchen.
The noise inside was unbelievably loud.
This might be some peoples idea of good, I definitely canāt understand why itās so busy, except that itās cheap.
I also canāt understand the āfriendly staffā comments, without exception they were short on anything resembling good service.
It was like a refugee feeding station, shouting, food being thrown at you and somewhere thatās probably better if youāve spent several hours in the pub before you go.
The food was fine, although the soya āmeatā was like nothing Iāve ever seen before. Looked like dog food, but tasted okay.
Portions were on the small side, not generous as some reviews have said they are. Tasted okay though, certainly not any better that an okay.
Toilets were like Spanish toilets in the 90ās. Need a deep clean and decorating. The ladies sink was covered in small beetles, that were running in and out of holes in the silicone that was supposed to be sealing behind the sink.
Certainly I can say I would not go back here.
No idea why we had to run a gauntlet of people waiting outside when we left.
Loads of better options near to the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH!!! I came here years ago with my family and we would go every year and always revisit this restaurant. Iāve also been fussy with Indian food as Iām not big on spice and normally find that mild curries are sickly sweet. This place on the other hand could not be more perfect. Sadly earlier this year I was diagnosed with coeliac disease meaning Iām gluten free, and after booking to bring my partner to Tenerife I was sad thinking that I may have to miss coming to the star of bengal, my fave restaurant in Tenerife. I was absolutely delighted to find out they have a gluten free menu and was so so excited to bring my boyfriend for him to experience the Indian Iāve always raved about back home! We had the special banquet and it was even better than I remembered it. Every starter was gluten free as was the curry I chose and my boyfriend was so impressed as he regularly eats Indian at home but was not expecting to enjoy every single thing to the level he did. They drew little hearts in our curries which was a really cute little touch. The price of the special banquet is absolutely incredible value For what you get. I will continue to rave about this place to every person I know who comes to Tenerife. I wish I could order the food to the uk, as Iāve never enjoyed an Indian like I have this place. Keep up the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I arrived in Los Cristianos a week ago, I went to another Indian restaurant near Star of India. It's special menu was the same price as Star of India but nowhere near as good. I so wish I had visited Star first. It's special banquet is from 18.00 but it isn't stated on their board in front of the restaurant. However, as I didn't know this and it was my first time here, Baten, the waiter, allowed me to order it at 17.15. There was no comparison to the other Indian establishment. For 12.95 euros I had a very large mixed starter and then a main course of chicken tikka madras with rice. A bottle of excellent house wine- a Rioja of 14% - was only 9.95 euros; a wine the quality of anything other restaurants will charge double the price for. I only wish I had longer to stay in Los Cristianos, but I've reserved a table for my last evening at 18.00 before the rush begins. Make sure you reserve a table if you want to eat here after 18.00. We'll worth it. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you for your kindness and service Baten.
I'm sorry that I referred to Star of Bengal as Star of India. I have just eaten there again on 30th January and it is really excellent, so I needed to make sure I was giving it's correct name so as not to confuse people...
