Avenir Restaurant in Barcelona was an absolute highlight of my trip. As a solo traveler with a four-year-old, dining out at highly regarded restaurants can sometimes feel daunting—you never quite know how welcoming the staff (or fellow diners) will be toward a young child. But from the moment we arrived, the team at Avenir made us feel completely at home. (I should mention we attended during a quiet Wednesday lunchtime and chose out of the way seats, to respect the other diners).
The staff's warmth and hospitality were outstanding. Sensing my daughter’s hungry crankiness, they immediately brought over some fresh bread, a small gesture that spoke volumes about their attentiveness. I opted for the eight-course tasting menu, which was incredibly well-priced for the quality and creativity on display. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour, showcasing the level of excellence that has earned them Michelin recognition.
What stood out just as much as the food was the staff’s kindness. They took the time to carefully explain each course to me while also being genuinely accommodating to my lively little dining companion. The entire experience was seamless, relaxed, and welcoming—a rarity in fine dining when traveling with a child.
I wholeheartedly recommend Avenir. It’s a place where both exquisite cuisine and exceptional hospitality come together to create a truly special experience. Thank you to the wonderful team for making our meal so memorable—I will...
Read moreInitially, we were surprised by the emptiness of the restaurant. For a restaurant with a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, we'd expect a full house on a Saturday night. We learned why at the end of our visit. Uri greeted us at the entrance, and since we were the first clients that evening, he offered a choice of tables. The restaurant was nice and cozy. After we took a sat, he told us about the sharing concept of the restaurant, and we ordered dishes and a very nice, full-bodied red wine he recommended. The dishes were small and perfect for tasting and sharing. We liked the complexity and exciting mixes of flavors, but occasionally, they were a little too bland. Still, the experience was unique and finished off with delicious desserts. Uri made the night particularly nice with his attitude and attention to our needs. Finally, we learned about the limited number of tables that night. The Head Chef and two other staff members from the front of the house attended a marathon, and the Sous Chef hosted us. It was a pleasant surprise, but not unexpected, as we felt Uri's deep care for our experience...
Read moreChesco and Roger’s innovative restaurant is superb. We were waited on primarily by Chesco and saw Roger wiz through the restaurant early in the meal. Being Americans, we were early for our 8pm dinner reservation and, being in Spain, were the first guests in the restaurant. By the time we left it was full but they were somehow keeping up while still providing personal attention. Aside from the excellent food preparation and presentation, they offer a sharing system that essentially allows you to pick your own personal tasting menu. They then serve it one dish at a time, one dish topping the last. We were only 2 people but were able to have 2 appetizers, 5 main entrees, 3 desserts, wine & coffee and a wonderful dinner with gratuity was still only a reasonable $100. Everything was excellent but some of the highlights for me were the candied garlic, the ravioli (more of a dumpling) with squid, pork & beef, the lamb with garlic sabayon sauce and the pigs’ feet. When we return to Barcelona, we will have to book months in advance because by then they’ll be famous. Jump on a reservation now....
