Bar Restaurant L'Univers — Restaurant in Barcelona

We went here because La Boqueria Market was way too crowded and we wanted to sit and eat at a bar. This place was perfect for seafood or even non seafood/vegetarian options!

We ordered the Grandmother’s Croquetas to start- we didn’t know if they’d be croquetas de Bacalao (cod) or jamon. We tried them and they were SO GOOD but we couldn’t figure out what they were. I asked the waitress and she said “mixed meat- beef, chicken and pork. They were incredible. Favorite croquetas I’ve had in Spain.

The we ordered the grilled seafood platter (parrillada de marisc). Holy cow. This was huge, totally shareable between 2 people (you should only share with 3 people if you plan to order some other tapas with this meal) and let you try all their best seafood: baby squid, scallops, various types of muscles and clams, giant shrimp, shishito peppers, etc. the baby squid were grilled to perfection and had an amazing carmelized crust which brought out some sweetness from the squid. The muscles and clans were delicious and not grainy, and the scallops melted in your mouth. The shrimp were easy to peel and had a LOT of white, fresh meat in them. I loved everything about this dish and can’t wait to return and try their other highly recommended dishes which included:

-Bacalao (salted cod) -Grilled octopus -Meatballs -Stewed Tripe

I am giving even more points for the cute theme and decor fitting with the name of the bar - had a cool Saturn-shaped chandelier and little lights meant to be stars. The service was also very helpful and friendly.

I love visiting and walking the Santa Caterina Market. It isn't as colorful or gritty as it's El Raval counterpart, La Boqueria, but this upscaled version seems less intimidating to ask questions in broken Spanish... as I am always forced to do! When I last visited Santa Caterina, I was in the mood for a scramble. And that it what I ordered, with bacon, and toast. The eggs were quite good, but the lightly cooked bacon had me trimming the fat for 5 minutes. Once that task was complete, I finished breakfast with haste... I was hungry! L’universe is a restaurant located inside Santa Caterina market by the gothic neighborhood in Barcelona Spain. They offer indoor (around the bar) and outdoors sitting. On booth there is a cool vibe among employees and customers. We stopped y after lunch time, the dishes we ordered were delicious: croquetas, see food picadillo and callos.
