Disappointing. I have often passed this place and wanted to go in, so last Friday I visited with 4 friends.
We were seated and then had to wait a long time for any drinks. 10 minutes or more had passed and we attempted to order at the bar. The barman said sit down and we will come to you, we waited another 10 minutes then a waiter was clearing a table next to us so I managed to order 5 beers with him. We then had to wait another 10 minutes before they came. So in total 30 minutes just for a few beers.
We then wanted to order food, we decided upon what we wanted and began to order with our waiter who seemed very agitated and not paying much attention. A member of my party then began to inquire about the various croquetas, the water then said "stop stop stop. When you know what you want order all at once, but now I'm going to serve someone else". I tried to say we did know what we wanted we just had a question but he had already stopped listening and walked off.
We finally managed to get him back and he made an uncomfortable joke about us finally being ready, a joke that fell upon deaf ears, as it would even if it were told to a group of giggling children as it was totally not funny. We made the exact same order as we had before and didn't bother to ask about the croquettes this time.
When the food came the olives tasted very very bad, the patatas bravas did not have bravas sauce but burger sauce or 'salsa rosa' as Spanish speakers know it. He also managed to forget one of the croquettes that we had ordered. The cheese board contained 3 varieties of cheese, 2 or which were inedible due to their foul flavour. All in all the food was very underwhelming and disappointing; it left a sour taste in our mouths, all the more sour from the inept and rude waiter that served us.
The waiter was cocky, not in any way charming and very rude. Perhaps he fancied himself a sort of Jordan Belfort character as portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. However in reality he was more of a Calvin J. Candie as portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in Django unchained, rude, cocky, and just generally uncomfortable to be around.
Don't bother with this place, when there are so many spots nearby where you won't be subject to such ineptitude and...
Read moreHow do you feel about globalization❓ I'm not talking about politics or macroeconomics here. ✋ I mean, do you like finding the same menu in 99% of the restaurants of the world? I love 💙 an avocado toast 🥑, hummus, or a burger 🍔, but I don't wanna eat that in all the restaurants that are not focused on ethnic cuisine all over the world... 😓 A few days ago, our friend from the USA 🇺🇲 was going back home and we wanted to take her out to have local food. Believe me or not, but finding good traditional tapas or "platillos" (small dishes) isn't easy. I picked El roure, not too far from home, because I used to go there for savory breakfast. I remember they had traditional sandwiches 🥪 and typical Catalan savory dishes 🍲. The menu used to be really extensive so I thought our friend would be able to taste different items on her last day. Unfortunately, it seems the ownership changed because so did the menu. The palace doesn't look "as Catalan" as it used to be... The menu is not as extensive and... they offer hummus... 😓 But we still were able to order fricandó (Catalan beef steak in a sauce), rabbit 🐇 and sobrasada, on top of other easier to find tapas, like bravas 🥔 or tortilla 🥚. The tortilla and the "torreznos" (rashers) were great. The sauce of the rabbit dish too. 👍 The rest was just correct. Although the food was ok and the service was fine, I can't say I was thrilled by the experience. Maybe I'm biased by my memories of the place, but I didn't find the "local" vibe there used to be. 😞 The price was fine, though, as we paid around €15 each, no wine, no dessert.

Read moreAbsolutely Awful . Seemed like tourist are an inconvenience in this local establishment. It was recommended to us by a very friendly shopkeeper in the area . The gentleman that served us was rude and disrespectful to a paying customer . We ordered 2 lunch set menu which was an apple salad that consisted of some frizzy lettuce with less than quarter of an apple sliced and drizzled with some olive oil . The main was entrecôte which we asked for medium . It was brought to the table over well done and was like rubber . When we notified the waiter he was clearly displeased but brought us another and banged it on the table . This time it was blue and absolutely inedible. We had ordered the patatas bravas as a starter and it was the worst ever . Literally underdone fried potatoes with a curry mayo . The other tables with locals seated seemed to get a normal service and had no issues with their food . We were not even served a bread basket . Clearly we were not welcome and we had enough of the inadequate service , we didn’t stay for dessert.Having eaten in quite a few local places in and around plaza catalunya , The conclusion is that the touristic areas have better food and service than the local...
