I have been a loyal customer of Can Fisher for the past five years, and I have witnessed the service gradually decline from outstanding to a level where I can no longer recommend this restaurant. In one recent experience on July 7th has left me utterly disappointed, and I would advise others, especially those with young children, to avoid this establishment.
On July 7th, I reserved a table for four at Can Fisher, consisting of three adults and one two-year-old child. Upon arrival, we were immediately told that we had to store the baby stroller, which was a first in all my years of dining there. We requested a baby chair and proceeded to our seats. Typically, guests are pushed to sit near the road, and on this particular day, it was 30 degrees and sunny. The staff reassured us that the sun would soon disappear, but even with plenty of empty tables available, we were given an ultimatum: either stay at the table or leave. We reluctantly stayed, but it felt like we were sitting in a sauna.
When the baby chair finally arrived, it was filthy, as if it had never been cleaned, and lacked a seatbelt. We requested to seat our child in the stroller instead, but this was refused, despite the stroller being no larger than the baby chair. This incident made it clear that Can Fisher has little interest in accommodating their customers' needs.
Adding to the frustration, the staff operated like robots, strictly following orders without any consideration for our situation. During our back-and-forth with one employee, two others approached us, trying to sell drinks and seafood, interrupting our attempts to have a conversation and settle in. It felt more like a sales pitch than a dining experience.
Despite the good food, the service on this day was an absolute zero. If you have young children, I strongly advise against visiting Can Fisher, as they seem indifferent to whether you and your child are comfortable or not. This poor service only began after they started requiring a €50 deposit to reserve a table, something that never happened in the past when the overall experience was far better. Sadly, Can Fisher was once my favourite restaurant in Barcelona, now is a place to definitely to...
Read moreThe location is very nice, with beautiful views and tasteful décor, unfortunately that’s the only good thing about the place. We were a group of friends from different countries and, for simplicity, we mainly spoke with the servers in English. From the beginning, two of the waiters were extremely rude, to the point of insisting that one person order for the whole table.
The food arrived quickly, but it was literally thrown into the middle of the table without being served to the right person. At one point, food fell from the plate onto the server’s tray, and he simply picked it up with his hands and put it back on the plate before tossing it onto the table again.
When the fish of the day was offered, the server who explained it was actually very nice and knowledgeable, so we ordered two to share. Unfortunately, they managed to completely ruin what was clearly a high-quality fish—it was unsalted, tasted boiled, and was full of scales. We paid €80 per fish, and all it came with was a tiny bowl of fries and some boiled vegetables.
When we asked for more salt (because the shaker was clearly empty), the waitress gave us a lecture on how to use it instead of replacing it. Even after insisting that it was empty, she ignored us until her supervisor finally came over and told her to replace it.
The rest of the food was decent but overpriced, especially considering the service. After finishing the main course, no one came to check on us for at least 30 minutes, and only returned after we called them twice. They eventually brought us the dessert menu, but after waiting again with no service, we decided to leave. Since no one offered us the bill, we went directly to the cashier to pay. The supervisor made a snide remark about why we didn’t pay at the table, and the waitress, thinking we only spoke English, made an unpleasant comment in Spanish about us being...
Read moreI want to echo those who cry "tourist trap." It reminded me of a Hard Rock Cafe or some such. The waiters' behavior screamed, "We are trying to get as much money out of you as possible." I barely had to see a menu to get the vibe.
First, the appetizers. There are two separate sections on the menu for appetizers: one is "appetizers," the other is "appetizers to share." I was already sweating seeing this. We ordered four gildas (skewers with olives, anchovies, etc.), which cost twenty euros total! (You can get four gildas for ten euros at any bar in Barcelona. It's very standard tapas.) They even brought each of the four gildas out on its own plate, which was pretty gauche.
Next, the paella: the waiter came up to us asking us what we were in the mood for. I said, "Paella." They then had the guy in charge of fish come over and tell us the off-menu options you could order, including Atlantic lobster... I said to the waiter, "Can we just order paella off the menu?" He said we could and proceeded to show us the part of the menu with "rice" --- it said paella nowhere! No section labeled "Paella" because heaven forbid the money extortion should be straightforward.
In the end, the paella (with black rice) was delicious! We only paid $80 for the four gildas, a paella for two, a glass of wine, and two bottles of water. So we did not wind up paying a fortune, and the paella was very good, but I was expecting a much more straightforward experience. This is not the kind of restaurant experience I am...
