The booking page and even their own official website say Wi-Fi is free in the rooms aswell, however on checking in we were told room wifi came with extra surcharge, which is bad especially just before this we were charged an unexpected 33 euros city tax for 3 nights. I was not too happy about this as the third party booking site said their prices included all fees and taxes.
The first impressions of the hotel was that it was modern and clean, bright and welcoming. Staff were helpful enough. Booking site also said they had airport transfers but they don't. They also do not have a city shuttle bus, but there is metro stations nearby.
The Poblenou area is quite convenient as its near restaurants, convenience stores, the promenade and the beach all within easy walking distance. You can walk out the hotel and turn right and after about 50 metres you will find the Rambla del Poblenou which is busy and has lots of shops. On one end is the beach on the other end is a busy mall. Lots of halal and local Spanish restaurants are on this street too.
The room is clean and pretty spacious, there is a chair and desk, which was handy, hanging rail and shelf for your clothes and belongings. They have power and USB sockets so useful for all your charging needs. There is a big flat screen TV with HDMI and USB sockets. There are not many channels, I found 1-3 English channels, 1 was sky news.
The bed was prob comfortable, which was a surprise. Although I wanted a street view the view we got was good enough, we could see the Sagrada Família in the distance, but there was also a big cage/fence in the view. No big issue i guess.
The bathroom was decent sized, a little cramped when having a shower though esp if you're a big person. It was clean and modern. The problem for me was that on two occasions it took 5-minutes to get the water warm enough to shower with. It then gets hot when you've finished. A lot of water was wasted. It was also unclear how to use the taps to get hot water at first, because there were two taps which can be turned in several ways.
The AC is easy to operate but the min temperature seemed to be 19 degrees.
There are about 9 floors, being higher up the two lifts are essential which for us were always accessible.
Room cleaning did a good job each time, no issues.
Buffet breakfast was pretty standard... no extras or specials like made to order omelettes or crepes but it is a 1 star hotel, so for that it was pretty good. You get a choice of fruit juices, teas, coffees, breads, pastries, cereals, meats, cheeses, fruit and warm food like scrambled eggs, tortillas, beans and mushrooms. The scrambled eggs with toast were nice. I found the fruit juices on one occasion smelt a bit funny. There are two toasters for your sliced bread but not other stuff like croissants. There was plenty of seating available.
There are vending machines if you want a snack and leaflets for tourists.
In terms of price I was bit unhappy paying over £100 per night for a 1 star hotel but it can be cheaper if booked more in advance. But it is the best option if you need something a bit more urgently due to the cleanliness...
Read moreWe stayed for a week, I looked at the reviews but I thought people were being precious. What a regret! The one star is just for the location and the team cleaning the rooms.
The guy in the reception took ages to check us in, when we finally went to the room one of the cards didn't open the door, we didn't bother coming back the same day to fix it, but then 2 days later both cards stopped working so we had to change them anyway. He also forgot to give us the wi-fi password, and we had to ask for it at the reception on the second day. The wi-fi was very slow in the bedroom. The staff in the reception were not very nice with each other which made it awkward to the guests that have nothing to do with it, I will explain: this slow guy was checking us in while two other staff were completely free on their computers, some other guest arrived to ask for something and they told them to wait behind us!! They were doing absolutely nothing and instead of getting rid of the queue they made the guest wait for the slow guy that was busy with us! Completely crazy!
The room was not bad, we just needed it to sleep, so we didn't care about the appearance or what it had inside. The sink and the shower were leaking. We told the reception and they sent the guy to fix the sink straight away, the shower just kept leaking. The drain in the shower was very stinky and they said there was nothing they could do about it, so we had to smell that during our whole stay. The room was very hot. During our stay it rained all week but it wasn't cold outside. The room had what seemed like an air conditioner but the buttons didn't do anything, we had no real control over it. The room was boiling hot all the time and we had to request the window to be open (and even so it was hot).
The breakfast was the same thing everyday and it wasn't good. The juices weren't fresh, they looked like diluted juice. The coffee machine didn't heat the water hot enough to brew a cup of tea!
During our stay there were loads of groups of teenagers that were completely rude, mobbing the breakfast area and messing about with the lift. There are only two lifts for all the guests and cleaning staff. Sometimes we couldn't be bothered waiting and just took the stairs (we were in the 9th floor). Most of the time, the lift would get up to the last floor (9th) with teenagers already in it!! (Wtf?! Are they going for a ride in the freaking lift??). Honestly these teenagers wouldn't even let people get out of the tiny lifts before trying to get in, it felt very claustrophobic!
So even if everything else was good in the hotel (which wasn't) these huge groups would have completely ruined the experience anyway. If you are a part of a big group of teenagers please do stay here and leave the nice hotels for the rest of us. What bothers me the most is that it wasn't cheap, I have stayed in hostels in BCN and other Travelodge there were...
Read moreWe had booked from 24th to 27th May 2025||I'm Tadeu Rodrigues, an Indian citizen .||My daughter(who happens to be a European citizen )and me were booked at Travelodge Barcelona Poblenou 24th to 27th May 2025 .||Since early check in was agreed with the booking portal it was informed by my daughter that we would be arriving by 8:30 am .||We happened to arrive sooner to the hotel at around 6:30 am, as our commute reached the destination earlier.||The male staff on duty at the reception at that time was very kind and informed us that the room would be available around 8 am. However it was their shift end and he handed over to a female staff, who was very rude towards us ,may be because I was an Indian .||The lady staff just kept prolonging check in, saying rooms weren't yet clean and we would need to talk to the manager who was not yet on duty at that hour, we were told 10mins and yet another 10 minutes everytime we inquired. (To note having extensively traveled in the past, have never encountered a hotel that needed more than 4hours for housekeeping). This went on for almost 4 hours, till I noticed the receptionist check in some people ,when I further inquired with the other receptionist, she just brushed it aside saying her colleague who was now incharge was busy at the luggage room, tending to other gustes which was clearly a lie, as we saw the guests check in and go by lift.||On insisting for the manager who was another lady, who told me another fable about the checkin being 3pm.I found no use for further conversation with the manager ,who seemed inconsiderate of the situation. Further my daughter persistently insisted with written communication, clearly stating accommodation preference to consider for a senior citizen. This rigmaroll took another 1 hour till we could finally get a room. 5 hours sitting tired at the reception till a room could be provided didn't seem very empathetic towards a senior citizen traveller( with being pre notified). || ||Coming to the good part, the hotel has good amenities and is centrally located with otherwise informatively helpful personel .||The photo of the two biased receptionist on duty is attached .||Also the time when the room was finally allotted is also attached .||Heads up the hotel promotes being wheelchair and less mobility friendly which it is, however sadly not all staff are hospitable or friendly. The 2 female receptionist in perticular lack empathy and fair treatment towards different...
