Straight up tourist trap. They have some weird deal with hotels to recommend them to tourists for paella. We asked our concierge at our hotel for the best paella in town. This was his suggestion. If you read more recent reviews in here you find a trend of tourists being sent here by the front desks of their hotels and then the meal ends up being the worst of their stay. Seems like very good marketing/deals made with all the surrounding hotels. You can even read the responses in those reviews from the owner/management being very hostile and calling everyone liars. That level of defensive posturing is consistent with someone trying to deflect from the truth of their inadequacies.
I’m not a fan of paella but my wife loves it and wanted the real Spanish authenticity. We set up a reservation, and were excited. The place is Gaudi… pun intended. Dressed up as fine dining. Farthest thing from it my wife got her paella and was taken back with the poor quality. You can get better paella from knock off spanish restaurants in the US. It was uncooked, and the sea food was rubbery. Unlike other reviews we were aware of the “per person price” and that it was compulsory to buy atleast 2 portions. It’s quite a price gouge but it did not surprise us.
I got the “Wagyu” burger. If comes on a plate…just the meat, no bun with a small portion of fries. Presented like a steak. It was not even close to wagyu. I asked for it medium and it came out well done and chewy. Just terrible all the way around. It wasn’t even rested as I cut into the burger it vacated any and all juices, immediately. Bad food, high prices, masquerading as a fine dining establishment. Do not go here! Over 100.00 on dinner and the only thing moderately edible was the croquettes. They were ok.
We made some local friends at a small pub in the gothic district the following night and they confirmed that they’ve heard of this place and how it operates as a notorious tourist trap.
They took us to a place down by the beach where we got much better and fresher paella. Our new local friends told us that Barcelona paella had essentially all become really bad because of too many places like this taking advantage of tourists and that if we really wanted “the best” paella we should travel to Valencia.
We learned if you want even just decent paella to stay away from any restaurant within a kilometer of las ramblas. If they offer it for dinner, it’s a red flag, especially at an establishment in which you need reservations. You are not going to get amazing paella in barcca anymore. Just too much temptation to take advantage of tourists and charge very high prices on...
Read moreNestled in the vibrant heart of Barcelona, Guadim Restaurant is a culinary gem that masterfully blends traditional Spanish flavors with a touch of modern elegance. My recent dining experience there was nothing short of extraordinary, highlighted by the house specialty: the lamb and chicken paella.
From the moment we entered, we were enveloped in an atmosphere that exudes warmth and authenticity. The interior, with its tasteful contemporary decor filled with paintings, and the chef’s signed fútbol jerseys collection, creates an inviting setting that is both sophisticated and cozy. The staff, attentive and knowledgeable, guided us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm, clearly passionate about the culinary delights they were about to present.
The lamb and chicken paella, a masterpiece in its own right, was the highlight of our afternoon. Served in a traditional paellera, the dish was vibrant with aromas that tantalized the senses even before the first bite. The rice, perfectly cooked and infused with a rich, savory broth, formed the ideal foundation for the tender pieces of lamb and chicken. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors, with the succulent meat complemented by a delicate balance of spices and herbs that elevated the dish to new heights.
What truly set this paella apart was its depth of flavor and the meticulous attention to detail. The lamb was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. The subtle smokiness from the saffron and the freshness of the vegetables rounded out the dish, creating a symphony of tastes that lingered on the palate long after the meal was over.
Guadim Restaurant is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Barcelona. The lamb and chicken paella is not just a dish; it is an experience, a journey through the flavors of Spain that captivates and delights. For anyone seeking an authentic yet refined taste of Spanish cuisine, Guadim is an...
Read moreAfter having a bad experience with paella in tourist trap at barceloneta, I decided to come this restaurant to have another paella to see if paella is overall taste so salty, dry, stone rice texture in Barcelona . As many review said that is a good paella restaurant. To avoid the mistake, I only ordered paella for 2. Nothing else. The paella here totally blow my bad impression away. The rice is aldente, not stone hard. If you wait a bit, the rice will even soften more as it is still cooked in the iron cast. The seafood is generous. It has good quality of shrimps, mussel, squid, clam. This is a real seafood mix. Not a baby lobster with 2 stupid shrimps that I had before. The rice is moist. It has a good spices flavour with some more shrimps flavour. The seafood taste is not strong but noticeable. It is not salty at all but I cannot stop eating it. It is a good paella. The service is good. The person came to asked us what to drink willing to answer any questions in menu or even taking entire order. When paella came. The waiter will warned us that the iron cast is hot. He also provided us wet swipe. He was friendly always with smile. With excellent food and good service, I highly recommend anyone try the...
