Henry's Bar, eponymously named after the pooch of the couple who own the place, is a 90s throwback of a stylised Brooklyn dive bar, right down to the orange leather booths and kitschy ménage of artwork on the wood-panelled walls. It works beautifully for three reasons - first, it feels authentic in the @22 edge of this Poblenou neighbourhood, both homey and trendy, with a sign over the door that's reminiscent of something you'd see in Coney Island and generous sidewalk seating that's consistently packed throughout the summer (and an inviting long wooden bar that greets you at the entrance). Second, the couple who own Henry's are an interesting combination of Poblenou native and London hybrid, having spent a number of years in Brooklyn. And they just seem like the kind of people you'd want to hang out with in a bar like this. And third, the cocktails are amazing, as is the counter-style food (crispy popcorn chicken, bite-size burgers for two, pulled pork croquettes and grilled cheese sandwiches...) For a jaded former New Yorker now living in Poblenou, it was like a funky time-lapse back to when when there was still a little seediness left in Brooklyn and you could still get a real cocktail and real counter food cheap on Smith Street that tasted home cooked. Along with Barriteca, the best place to eat and hangout in Poblenou and walk away feeling like they must have forgotten to charge you...
Read moreWorst experience in Barca honestly. Waited outside at a dirty table for 25 minutes and after asking repeatedly for the table to be cleaned… this was ignored. Small children allowed to walk on top of the bar with their shoes after walking in from the street and no one told their parents to take them down, reflective of their hygiene standards I assume. After no one came outside, waited 15 mins at the bar, asked waiter to order food for him to disappear and speak and cheers with a friend. On the third ask to order…. was only then told the only thing to be served that evening were burgers. Cannot believe the service for such a lovely looking place… wildest experience I’ve had at a restaurant in Barca ever 😵💫😵💫😵💫 We walked out after wasting...
