Swad-The Indian Restaurant is a cute little restaurant near the Glories section of Barcelona, Spain.
I arrived right at opening time this Sunday evening and was the first to enter the restaurant. Because I am a serious restaurant reviewer I always try and get good pictures and video for my reviews. No one was in the restaurant so I asked if I could take some video and the girl behind the counter said that I "could not take any video, only photos" which I thought was strange as no one was there, and the restaurant looked pristine and perfect. That seemed very strange, especially for a business that could only benefit from other people seeing the inside.
I ordered a starter of dal and garlic and cheese naan bread that I specifically asked to come out before my main course of biryani shrimp. They obviously wanted to get my out of the restaurant quickly, so they brought everything out at the same time. The apology felt insincere.
The dal, which is lentil beans basically, was very tasty in a rich dark sauce. It went well with the garlic and cheese naan. The shrimp biryani was just ok. You had to get to the bottom of the small bowl to get more to the flavorful part.
For dessert I ordered the rice pudding. It was really good with what I think was pistachio crumbs on top.
The meal was descent, but the service and the feeling I got from the staff left me with a strange feeling that detracted from the meal. I felt like an unwelcome visitor! I would have rated the food with 4 stars but when I factor the service that I got, unfortunately I have to rate this restaurant with 3 stars.
Although I am in Barcelona frequently, I will not go back to...
Read moreIf I could give a zero I would. I am not complaining about the food. I just simply noticed the attitude of the owner has changed so much since his restaurant got so popular and is always full of people. nowadays the owner is riding high horse attitude towards customers. last time I made an order through their website and paid through Bizum, they didnt receive the order when I went to pick it up and they showed an attitude they dont care and didn't apologize at all and made me wait for 30 mins more . A few months back then on a Sunday again, I made an order at 9:06 , they told me to wait outside 15 mins, I waited until 9:30 and went in to ask if it was ready, the owner told me they are not McDonald's. I honestly don't appreciate this sarcastic tone when he said it as if I was an idiot. I finally got my order at 9:43 p.m. As a customer no matter how good your food is, if your attitude is terrible the customer will not appreciate it. SWAD used to do menu de dia, they don't do it anymore because they have enough customers and no need to do menu de dia which don't bring them money, now this ? come on! I would never come back and I will tell all my friends not to come since there are plenty good indian restaurant, the only difference is just you decorated your restaurant to suit the european taste. NEVER...
Read moreWe had a great experience at Swad. But more importantly - it’s the quality of the food that stood out for me. Together with large groups and small groups at different times - both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian options as well as desserts were all highly rated by all (speaking for 15 ppl here). I personally chose restaurants both by looking at reviews but also photos put by other users. Here I chose the restaurant by photos of the food which looked authentic and had the colours and distinctions needed that differentiates from a one base gravy to all dishes type of place versus those that actually build from scratch and give Indian food the respect it deserves as well as respecting the rich cultural diversity of the menu. Swad - which Means taste - did not disappoint the taste buds and with its reasonable pricing as well - I am happy to recommend this place to my network. 5/5 from me. I didn’t remember to take many photos as we were too busy enjoying the food and talking - but the few that I did from the first visit should be a good ...
