Half of the menu was not available, food came in an asymmetrical arrangement and the ambience was, well, odd.
I understand that in some cultures, it is custom to have a TV on nonstop, just filling the room with noise and hectic pictures. It seems that this is also the case in Afghan culture. But, and that was the odd thing, they didn't play anything Afghan. Instead, we were compulsively catered with Bollywood dances that copied everything from Western cultures (including a very bad Michael Jackson copy), Pakistani singing and, now it gets bizarre, a Kazakh talent show where a boy is singing for an old man who is falling asleep during the performance. This ran in loop for our entire stay.
The food that we then got was ok - it strongly reminds you of Arab and Indian cuisine, and also uses very similar recipes. But it was not the big flavor discovery that we hoped for. Maybe we came with too big expectations.
All in all, it was an interesting visit that we don't regret, but at the same time, something that we don't need to...
Read moreSome of the best food I had while living in Barcelona. I had the Afghani mantu, delightful meat-filled dumplings in creamy yogurt sauce topped with tomatoes, and the chicken karahi which was probably the best I’ve ever had. The chicken cooked in the juices and spices was so tender and flavorful. I’m generally unimpressed with food I get here in Spain (whether I’m eating Spanish or international food), so it was a nice surprise to eat authentic food full of flavor and spices. The restaurant is very clean - I could tell the owner took pride in keeping it that way by the cardboard boxes he laid in front of the entrance after a rain to prevent anyone making footprints coming inside. The decor and ambiance feel very much like what you might find in such a country with kind of cheesy wall paintings and a tv that was playing a sappy Russian war drama. The service was fast and very friendly. Such a lovely place. I’m excited to take...
Read moreAfter traveling the world and trying countless restaurants, this one undoubtedly stands out as the best for lamb. We've been coming here for two years, and not only has the food always been excellent, it actually seems to be getting even better! The prices are very reasonable, and the restaurant is family-run, which adds to its charm. Salangi, the owner and head chef, is a true culinary genius. The restaurant is a local favorite, so you can always count on fresh, top-quality ingredients. I've sampled a variety of dishes, hoping to find one that's less impressive, but every single meal has been outstanding. There's no flashy décor here—if you're after that, this may not be your spot—but if you're looking for incredible food without the extra fuss, this is a must-visit. If you're in Barcelona, I highly recommend...
